Blown. Front. Diff.

So I kinda blew my front diff in the first 5 minutes of the first trail of the first day of the weekend. Sucks, but I'm glad we got it on video at least...

Coming soon- Rear FJC E-Locker, Front Detriot Tru-Trac & 4.88 gears...

I did the exact same thing, should have my replacement diff tomorrow. Of course I hoped it was cv's, so I replaced both of them (in the middle of the ORP's campground) before I dropped the skids and saw the carnage when I drained the diff.

Then I ended up driving about 11 hours home in 2wd but every now and then it would still lock up in front, that can be scary at highway speeds. Lot's of busted gears and twisted metal in there.

That's bad...
So after you blown your front diff, you can still drive the runner in 2wd right?

I assume it depends on what broke in the diff, but for me there were a few of scary moments. Driving along at 65 mph and all of a sudden the front end just locks up and pulls real hard to driver side. Can be done, I did for damn near 800 miles, but I wouldn't suggest it.

Just watched the video again, didn't realize you don't have a rear locker when I first watched it. I put an Aussie in the rear and still blew my front. Kinda shocked that cv's aren't going instead if diffs? WTF, shouldn't that be the weakest link?

haha yeahh i know everyone wants me to go SAS, but Summer will stay a mall crawler...I'll save the stiff leafs and solid front axle for when I get my FJ40

that's what I was saying...but we pulled the boots off and the CVs are all gravy

wow, that kinda sucks!! good thing its someone like you that can throw a new diff in with your eyes closed.

for most people a broken Cv is bad enough, an exploded diff is waaaay worse,

LOL for you its just an opportunity for an upgrade! :thumb3:
