blown head gasket? gas smell from coolant reservoir

so everyone agrees to not to replace the head gaskets? if i buy another engine wouldnt this problem occur again anyway? i dont see why this motor wouldnt last me another 200k miles.

does anyone have a diy on this because i love working on cars and would like to try the diy...i dont see why it would take more than 8 hours to do it. the engine bay looks farely open to work on. i have a bmw that i replaced the valve cover gasket which was a pain in the ass but only took me about 4 hours to do.

i think i could just figure it out but just wanted some pointers if there is anything special i have to look out for.

OP, get to a garage who can check compression as check for coolant in the culinder and also hydro carbons in the coolant system.

Before you jump in, be 100% sure.

This is not necessarily a weekend job, you are tearing down to the block, both sides completely, and dis-assembling the head for machining.... Search for some pics in what it looks like and how complex it it. It's not just a matter of unbolting alot of stuff, you have to know specifics on what you are removing to get it all lined back up properly ( valve timing, vvti adjustment, cam sensors, etc).

There is a guy on Toyota 120 who did this with his wife assisting and labeling everything, he has a bunch of pics too.

Just be ready and knowledgable.

well i think white smoke from the tail pipe kinda confirms its since he doesnt have a turbo, so its not turbo seals leaking
