Blown Relay?

Tonight has not been a good night for me. While installing my new rearview mirror radar detector holder, I first managed to drop a screw that fell into my defrost vents... Then on top of that when I used the wiring harness to hook into my autodim mirror, the wires managed to touch (hot and ground) when I turned the car on and made a nice spark and smoke then my ac shut of and went dark on the dash, the windows don't work and the sunroof doesn't.

See my car doesn't have nav so the power and ground to my mirror are right next to each other. So I popped the hood and Fuse box cover and noticed my grey AC relay has a black dot on it. I pulled it out and turned the car on and same problem, so I'm assuming that I managed to blow the relay? All the fuses I looked out were not blown. I don't hav an ohmeter but my dad does.

It sucks because I do most of my own basic maintenance like oil changes, horn replacements, exhaust. And I can build a computer from scratch, fix sprinkler lines, rewired my clothes dryer plug, but tonight I felt like the bumbling idiot. And to top it off I was sober!

You would think it would blow a fuse before a burning up a relay.

Yeah that's what I figured too. I checked all the relevant fuses and all were good. But if I can get the part tomorrow at the dealership, and it was just the relay and all is well after, then I'll be a happy man. I guess thank goodness for the 50-70 dollar part that saves the entire electrical system.

If this were a 4th gen the problem would be the IG-1 fuse. I very much doubt that you blew a relay. Is there a fuse box under the dash? If so I would look there for the blown fuse.

That's exactly what it was...a blown fuse! Phew. It was one of the 10A fuses in the middle, ECU-IG NO.2. So I grabbed the spare from the engine compartment and voila. Thank goodness. I appreciate the help from everyone. This forum rocks and saves stress, pain, and suffering!

I will attempt the reinstall today when I get off work. Today will be a better day for sure!
