Bluetooth and iPod cable on Scion T1808

Hi all,

I recently installed a Scion T1808 w/ ipod cable in my 2005 4R. I'm thinking about possibly adding a bluetooth unit but I cannot figure out if this is even possible with the ipod cable attached.

So my questions are:

1. Has anyone successfully installed a bluetooth reciever along with the ipod cable on a Scion T1808?
2. If so, what bluetooth reciever are you using and how satisfied are you with its performance?
3. Is there any conflict with using the ipod cable, and if so, how did you get around it?

I've done a bit of searching but can't seem to find an answer. Thanks in advance for your help!

Take a look at the back of your ipod. See if it runs on 12v or 5v of juice.

Some adapters may not be able to charge newer ipods and iphones because they only take 5v.

If you connect a 5v ipod/iphone you'll need to use a wall charger to recharge your music device or a 5v cigarette charger.

The music should still connect to your stereo with the cable but I've found it really difficult to find a place to route that thick cable through all the plastic moulding.

I hear bluetooth doesn't transfer a lot of data well over the connection. (different standards for phone I'm assuming). I'm ordering a new aux cable that will hopefully let me connect an ipad to a scion hu.

The only reason I've stayed away from an aux/ipod and bluetooth device is because I'm cheap and haven't found a scion navigation system (sns200) on ebay that supposedly does it all.

I will be using my iPhone and my only other concern is that the A2DP will "take over" and not allow the music to be played through the iPod cable. Have you had any experience with this?

kimboy: Thanks for your input. However, I already have the Scion HU installed with the iPod cable. I routed it through the center console without too much difficulty, and used a dremel to open up one of the switch blanks in the center console for a nice, clean look.

You are correct that the cable does support charging with 5V devices (like my iPhone 4). However there is an adapter available that solves this problem. See here: dockStubz Charge Converter and 30-pin Pass-Through Adapter

You are also correct that using bluetooth for streaming music reduces the sound quality and, in the case of the Blu Logic unit, only allows playback of music through the front two speakers. This is precisely why I would like to retain my iPod cable for music playback. I am interested in adding the Blu Logic unit in addition to the iPod cable simply for hands-free calling, not for streaming music.

I don't have an iPhone, but my phone supports A2DP, and I haven't had any conflicts. Works great. iPod pauses during a call and resumes after the call is complete.

I just completed my install tonight. Thanks to you and ABQ for the information leading up to my install. Here's the current setup:

2005 SR5 / Non-JBL
Installed a T1808 with an iPod cable about a year or two ago
Installed the Blu Logic system tonight. ($180 on ebay)

If you have the iPhone connected to the Blu Logic, it will default to playing the A2DP, however the iPhone lets you choose where to send the music by having an option on the screen. (I'll confirm this tomorrow, and let you know if its any different)

First impressions of the Blu Logic System:

The first calls sounded just fine on both ends.
The A2DP works well with an iPhone, just push play on the iPod application and it automatically comes out of the front two channels.
Looks great, as if it was a dealer or factory installation.
The button is a little shiny compared to the rest of the surfaces in the 4Runner.
The button is illuminated in blue, looks great in my opinion but left me wondering why Toyota didn't illuminate the DAC button (right next to it).
Install was just a little more involved than the a standard stereo install, but nothing for anyone with a few basic tools to shy away from.

FYI---I ordered part number PT923-00098, but was shipped PT923-00112, not sure the differences, but I peeled back the sticker that said PT923-00112 and found PT923-00098 written underneath. ????

Excellent, thanks for the info 4runner4us. I got the BluLogic unit for Christmas, and will be doing the install soon.

Any update on being able to turn off A2DP with the iPhone? I'd much rather play through the iPod cable (better sound quality, all speaker channels) and hope that it's easy to select the output on screen.

BTW--my DAC button is illuminated... same orange color as the rest of the switches and dash. Perhaps you have a bulb out?

Sonerick - Confirmed there is definitely an option to select where to send the sound to (either the Blu Logic or the dock connector). FYI-- the dock connection is head and shoulders better than the bluetooth connection as you might expect.

Also- my DAC button is illuminated when it is dark outside or when the lights are on, however the blu logic button is illuminated at all times.

Good luck with the install, hope you don't end up with one extra 10mm hex screw after everything is back together like someone I know!

So I FINALLY got around to installing the Blu-logic unit, and its pretty f-ing sweet! Pretty slick installation. My only problem with it is that while streaming music, the bass/treble/balance/fade controls on the head unit don't seem to have any effect. And during music streaming it continues to display the radio station/cd info... I wish it would display some sort of text like "Audo Streaming" or something. Anyone else have these problems, or did I f-up the installation?

One more question for you guys hat have it installed--does it display any text on the HU when muting a call? I read a post over on the FJ forum that says it should display "Tel-Muted" during a call, but that's not happening with my setup.

Sonerick - my headunit--I believe the same as yours--doesn't even need to be on at all for me to listen to music or any sound through the Blulogic. Its a completely independent system. Not sure what the FJ's have.
