Hey everyone. My mom's X5 is making weird noises when you turn the steering wheel. I figured I would check the power steering fluid to see if it was low. I look in the owners manual and I am searching under the hood, but I could not find anything related to the power steering fluid. I know Thai and some other people on the board drive BMW's. I know they are not X5's, but can someone please tell me where I could find the power steering fluid? I wish it was like the 4Runner where everything is labeled!

I would not mess with it, considering it is so new and still under all OEM warranties just bring it in.

Whenever you turn the wheel right, it makes this squealing sound. It does not happen when you turn left. It also only happens when you turn the wheel 3/4 or more. We never heard it before!

Since you can reproduce it, take it in. Even if it's low on power steering fluid, the amount lost had to come from somewhere, and it's highly likely that it's a problem that should be under warranty.

Geez, if your family can afford to give a new 4Runner to a teenager and Mom drives an X5, care to adopt someone else into the family??

The dealer said to drive it for 2,000 miles and if it does not go away, bring it back. They said it is nothing to worry about. We do not buy that because the car never did it and you should not hear a squeek when you turn the wheel.

I don't buy the dealer's response, either. The steering should be silent -- never a squealing noise.

Is there another BMW dealer you could take it to? This doesn't speak very highly of the service department where you bought it.

Tell your mom to go trade it in for a newer X5. That will solve the problem. I wish I can afford a BMW car period.

If I was hearing weird noises, I turn up the stereo louder. Does Beemers come out the factory with nice stereos? If not, you should put in a $5,000.oo Stereo system in it. That will solve the weird sound.

You might also want to tell your mom :girl: to take the X5 to some gnarly offroad trails. Maybe some off camber trails. After all the X5 is a 4WD truck right? Maybe the steering needs to get loosen up a little bit. If you do take it out on the trails, take some snapshots.

That X5 would look pretty tight lifted. With 35" Mud tires.

It came with a great stock stereo. That is a great idea to take it out on the trails. It is not 4WD, but AWD.
