body cladding removal

OK my son backed into my front passenger door. Slight dent but lots of ugly cladding damage. I searched the forums on cladding removal and the consensus was that you'll probably break the hidden clips, (very probable I'm sure) and there was a reference to using a hair dryer to make removal easier. (Is this to release the sticky tape?)

Little was said on where to pry and with what type of implement. Does anyone with access to a Toyo body service manual know the factory removal procedure?

Interesting footnote if you have a similiar problem. Partznet.com/Conicelli quoted around $250 for the pre-painted cladding piece. My local stealership quoted $439.06 for the same part. Big dif right? Pays to shop around.

Thanks in advance for any help you might offer.

I can't believe I'm the only one curious about cladding removal. Did I post in the wrong forum? Are there any painter or bodywork guys out there that have changed out the cladding?

PM toto, he seems to be the member w/ all the PDFs on the 4th Generation.

And please make a post back here so others can view it.

All I know is that once the cladding is removed, there's holes.

Thanks for the suggestion. Pdf's of the appropriate shop manual pages would be a great help. I tried to PM toto but he doesn't accept PMs apparently.

are the claddings and "outside mouldings" the same??

In the instruction, you are going to heat the moulding 104F - 140F.. maybe thats why they are using a hair dryer.:)

Bingo Borgzman!! this is exactly what I was looking for. They do help indeed. Any chance you also have the info for replacing the bumper corner pieces that sit under the tail lights as well? If so I will get all the dents out of my 4R at the same time.

Muchos Gracias
