Body ECU problem?

Hi,
I have a 2000 4R, and the lock switch doesn't work. It opens all doors, but no action when pressed to "close". Same happens with the remote control. My questions are:

1. Could that be the body ECU ? (I've been told by a mechanic)
2. Where can I get a 2000 4R Electrical system Diagram?

thought a ecu was an engine control unit?

or at the very least electrical control unit.....never ever have i heard of a body ecu...the word it's self is an idiom
there is a bcm though.... Body Control Module which what i think you mean,

what you need to do to find the unit is find the dlr disable mod for your truck and that should tell you where the bcm is located from there it's just chasing wires, as it's either going to be a failed sensor,unit or a break in the wire, and i'm thinking a break in the wire.

If neither door lock buttons work fully, and your key fob still does the same this will more than likely fix the issue. There is one other thing that could do it, but the chances of that happening are relatively small, if you interested I can show you how to test for that.

Well .. yes, it sounds strange, but I managed to find a pdf manual of a 4runner 2006. Although not the same, under the F RELAY LACATIONS manual, page 26, it shows the famous "body ECU" under the left side of the steering wheel. Probably the model 2000 doesn't have a BODY ECU and is called something else (fuse box?

Now, following on hyperduc response, I thinks that is the answer. The mechanic gave me 2 part numbers 8273035260 and 8273435020... (top and bottom or something alike). So.. where can I buy the fuse box? and is your car a 4runner 2000?

Depending on who you talk to the name changes, Toyota lists it as a Junction block - Driver side on their parts fische.

Mine is a 1999, but the 2000 utilizes the exact same part number: #8273035250, the best place to find it is NOT your dealer.

The only caveat is that your vehicle cannot have the VATS key, if it does you will need a different part number, the best way to get that would be to call a dealer with your VIN number and tell them you need the above mentioned part for your vehicle.

The fuse box is under your steering wheel on the drivers kick panel, its white(ish) it is the only box under there and is held in place by three bolts. Once its unbolted, its just a matter of disconnecting the old box and plugging the new box. None of the molex connectors are the same so screwing it up is not possible.

I'm an Electrical Engineering student so tracing the signal path and diagnosing was rather easy, not really much to it to be honest with you. I will mention that from an engineering standpoint this was a crappy way to do it, as these parts fail on a regular basis and the requirement to replace the entire unit is just throwing away a lot of other parts that still work.

Most manufactures use the same setup, but place the control components in a cheaper single unit piece or remove the mechanical parts and replace with solid state electronics and cheaply replaced component specific relays.

I just checked the link. The only difference between the 8273035250 and the 5260 is the ENGINE INMOBILIZE. (which apparently mine has).. is that what you referred to as the VTS KEY?
 
Yes the engine immobilizer uses the VATS keys (Vehicle Anti-theft System), if yours has it you will need a different part number than the one I specified.
 
Hyperduc, I decided to follow your "path". I took out the fuse box. Do you have the diagrams of the box? Or, do you remember what Molex connector carries the "lock"signal? I want to follow all the way to the relay. If the problem is a bad contact, or, a cold solder, I will fix it. If the problem is therelay ... well, let's see .. your help is appreciated. THANKS.
 
Yeah that was my original intention, problem is the fuse unit and the relay are both sealed. I pulled mine apart to diagnose the issue after I had already ordered a replacement and destroyed both cases in the process. FYIW it wasn't a case of dirty contact points that could be just be cleaned up.
 
I just ordered part number 82730-35260 (My 99 limited has the VATS) from Toyota Part for 203.00 shipped. A few bucks savings over the cheaptoyotaparts site.

I hope this fixes the problem, my locks are driving me crazy.

It breaks out Engine Immobilizers, Door Locks, Wireless Door Locks all separately. It does not have internal paths for the ECU's, but you can follow the links to get pin-outs, locations and wire colors throughout (including for harness plugs).

Both it and my '99 FSM refer constantly to Body ECU (and even 'Back Door ECU'). I could not find, in a quick search, anywhere that ECU is spelled out. I'm thinking there may be a translation issue here going from the Japanese characters to English.

Another successful fix.

99 limited with VATS, part number 82730-35260 fixed the "locks lock but dont unlock" issue.

Got it replaced in about 20 minutes with no ill effects. Getting that top bolt off was a bit of a challenge but nothing to write home about.
 
Hey I am having the same issues with my 99 Ltd, so I got the replacement junction box. Do you have to reprogram the remotes to work after you replace the Junction Box? My remotes never worked since I bought this 4runner in Feb of this year.
 
Well we had a lightning storm and I returned home only to notice that my headlights were stuck on. I turned the switch ON and OFF and nothing worked. I went to the dealer and they wanted to charge be $722 for Part #82730-35260 (fuse box assembly) plus labor. I am currently doing more research. I have found the part for $231 on the toyotapart website. I am going to order it and hopefully this fixes the problem. I am going to talk to them today and see what the extra cost was for. These folks let these high prices roll off of their tongue as if it was $7.22. CRAZY!
 
I have a 2000 4 runner it has power and will start but no power windows or gauges fuel ,odometer ,tachometer and no clock any suggestions thanks
