Body lift snag

So in addition to my suspension lift I was thinking of adding a 2" Toytec body lift for a little more height. I was moments away from buying it when I thought of something.... I have a front and rear brush guard... the brush guard is attached to the frame.... crap! So correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure the truck will not line up properly with the brush guard if the BL is installed? If so is there a way around this?

Now before you guys start cracking on me about te fact that I need an offroad bumper and not a collision multiplier I have alread looked into a Savage and a Badlands bumper. At close to $200 just to ship the bumper to NJ its just not in the cards. However if one of you west coast guys wants o explore NJ and bring a bumper along with you it would be greatly appreciated! :biggrin2:

No, anything like bumpers that's bolted to the frame will need brackets fabbed to correct for the body lift.

What do you need more height for? Just 'cuz?
 
yeah for the most part im looking for additional height. The duratracs don't rub per say but im starting to venture out to more and more locations and can see that it might become an issue upon flex. I think the additional 2" will also give it the higher stance I desire. I already have the 3" OME suspension lift in the truck now. :hungry:
 
If you don't "need" a 2" BL, I'd highly recommend just doing 1" then. I'm sure you've seen this before...3rd Gen 4Runner Body Lift Installation It outlines some of the extra work that is required when lifting the body over 1". Not saying you shouldn't (although some argue that any BL is a bad thing) just an FYI.
 
Thanks for the replies. Why would a body lift be considered a bad thing? I read the lift tutorial thread and the whole installation writeup. Will 1 inch really make much of a difference in height? Also will the 1 inch cause the grill guards to look unbalanced?
 
If you add ANY kind of lift to the BODY, and not the frame, where the guards are bolted, it will throw everything off. I don't know how much room you have between your bumper and the guard, but you'll probably have none, maybe even some rubbing if you just lift the body.

My suggestion to you would be to not waste the money on a BL just yet, save some money, get an aftermarket bumper and the body lift at the same time. If you haven't had any rubbing issues yet, there is a low chance you will. If you do experience some rubbing, take a different line, or just tub the wells. The tubbing would be a good idea, and with a little body work, i.e bondo, ect, it would look like you never had them done.

Grrrr yeah I guess it will just have to be left alone for now. I would love to do the aftermarket bumper but for $200 shipping that would pay for my body lift. And I can't do the body lift without removing the front and rear push guards. Unfortunately the odds of finding an aftermarket bumper in NJ is slim to none since we don't have the offroad land you West Coasters do. Everyone around this area has a Jeep (mostly mallcrawlers) or a lifted pickup. No love for the East Coast :gun4:

how much lift is on the trails less traveled 4runner?
 
You culd go to the TLT website and read, but I got this for ya......
