Body Mount Chop Question

I lifted my T4R and I'm thinking I need to get the front body mount chop done. As or right now I don't have any rubbing (without the mud flaps) but I would like the extra clearance for when the suspension is flexed.

What kind of shop do I need to take my rig to in order to get the front body mounts chopped correctly, what can I expect to pay, and how long should the process take?

If anyone can recommend a place in the St. Louis / southern Illinois area that would greatly appreciated.

I haven't done it. But looking at it, I'd guess a fab shop would do the work in 1-2hrs. I'd figure around $150-200 for a nice clean job with a panel welded in, ground welds smooth, and painted to look "factory".

Why do you think you need a body mount chop?

Its really only required for a pretty wide track width or tires bigger than 33s.

As far as what it takes... It is a pretty time consuming job to do it right. You have to stitch weld it very carefully since doing just a single pass seam will melt the rubber bushing. Also there is not a lot of room... I made mine look just like they came from the factory and it took me about 3 Hrs per side. Most of the time was spent shaping the insert and bending it...I was being a bit anal though and it was my first time... 2hrs would be the min.

Just looked at your sig. You shoud not need a BMC. Even with the wheel spacers. The LR UCAs- with proper adjustment should allow for some very high caster (wheels forward).

You can test by just lifting the front off the ground and checking the scrub angles. That seems to create the worse case scenario for the body mounts. Fully compressed to the bump stops actually provides a bit more clearance (from what I remember)

275's should have zero rub unless you are going with a crazy offset wheel or bigger tires you shouldn't be any where near the body mount... That being said what does your alignment look like?

I've got to find what I did with my alignment printout. I may be over reacting. I'd hate to ruin a tire or two from rubbing. Once I find my alignment printout I will post it up.

Im about to have mine done tonight. One of my techs at work will be doing it for me and he also does good weld work. All he said he wants for it is a case of beer lol. My tires rub front and back well at least they did. I pulled my fender liners forward and adjusted the bumper so now all i have left is the BMC.

As far as a place in southern IL i dont know but i could help you if you want to come up by Chicago

You probably need a BMC with 9" rims + spacers.

Yeah it rubs ever so slightly at full turn so i might as well get it taken care of especially since my tech is taking care of me

It took me about twenty minutes per side. Cost free. I don't know how much a shop would charge. Shops that install lifts usually are capable of this and well informed. I made a short video how I did it pro style.

Here's the link. It's short and sweet and exactly what you need to know. I have two inch wheel spacers on 33s so I needed quite a bit of clearance. Attached photo of finished product.
