I have a silver 06 Sport with a complex scratch damage to right front bumper. I scraped it on a rock wall and the damage goes into the plastic below the paint over about an 8 inch area. Two estimates say about $800 to repair. One wants to replace the bumper with new one and the other wants to repair scratch and then repaint. He is $80 cheaper.

Can I order a bumper myself in my color with clearcoat already applied and install myself or is this a big job with air bag sensors behind bumper, etc.? Just wondering what my options might be. I am not an expert repair person but have basic tools. Thanks

I just had a bumper replaced and painted on my 07' SR5.

The body shop ordered an after market one and after they installed it the shop called me and said they were not happy with the finished product.

I checked it out and most people wouldn't notice it, but it just didn't meet up with front fender on 1 side really good.

They ended up shipping it back and getting a replacement(from the same company). The replacement fit like new.

My point is if you order one and do it yourself,you may have issues with the fit.

My body shop charged $609.xx to do the job.

You bring up some good points and I like your quote a lot better. I live in high cost resort area so intend to keep shopping the cost.

Did your body shop have to paint and clearcoat your bumper or does it come that way?

I had mine replaced after some girl hit the front end of my truck going through and intersection. If I recall the bumper portion, for the part and painting it ran around $600 or so (then I had a bunch of other things that had to be replaced/repaired). However it did have to be painted and cleared to match my truck. Looking at it now, it doesn't look like it was ever replaced. It was an OEM part though as I'm not a fan of aftermarket parts for body work (just never seem to fit right).
