Bolt size?

Anyone know what size bolt is needed on the axle end of the panhard bar? I noticed this morning that mine is MIA. I'm guessing that it didn't get tightened good with the lift went on.

I need a new one ASAP. I'm hoping its something I can pick up at Lowe's or HD.

Anyone know the size before I start buying bolts to try?

Maybe someone from Toytec can comment since they sell the drop bracket.

Try your local Toyota dealer as well. The one in my neighborhood surprisingly keeps pretty good stock.

Could try any bolt that will fit until you find the exact one. I would guess its 14mm by 90mm or so, but would have to measure. Get a half inch by 3.5 sae if you're trying to get by in a brief meantime

The p/n is 90105-12288. The first two digits of the second half tells you it is a M12 bolt. Toyota always uses 1.25 pitch in M12. So now all you need is the length. 90mm is not a bad guess, but I'd climb under with a caliper and measure. A Toyota M12 bolt will take a 17mm wrench, aftermarket is usually 1mm different. Of course, you can use any pitch you want in M12, but I try to stay close to factory.

Camelback sells the OEM for $2.82 on-line; full dealer list price is $3.15.

It also takes a washer 94622-31200 and a nut 90170-12039. If I remember right, the bolt head has a washer built in and the separate washer goes at the nut end.

BTW, M12 is 0.47".

Need bolts for 4wd to transf case and gear shift to TC

Long story short, I had a friend mechanic replace my broken tranny in my 1999 4runner, limited ed, 4wd, a couple months ago. The tranny seems great, but shortly after it was repaired, I put it in park and suddenly my gear shifter was loose and all over the place. I work at a high school and the auto shop teacher put it on the rack for me and said that a bolt from the shifter to the transf case (I hope I'm using the right components here!) was missing. He put one in for now, but it's not the exact correct size --it lessened the wiggly room, but still shaky. He also said that there were no bolts in the 4wd component to transf case. He doesn't seem to know what size bolts I need, or where I could obtain said bolts. I'm hoping someone here can guide me in the right direction before my underneath falls apart? I'm afraid going to the dealer for bolts will cost way more than necessary! My friend mechanic has gone MIA :behindsofa:

Thanks for your help!

I'd like to help, but 'the shifter itself (TC or trans, BTW) doesn't have any bolts in it and I have no idea what '4wd component' is. Maybe some pics would get us over the language barrier.

I could guess, but then real chance of being wrong.

You might just need new TC shifter bushings. Marlin Crawler has great ones.

Or, take out one of the other bolts and go to a good autoparts store. Your instructor couldn't take one out and measure?

Thanks so much for replying -- the bolts are gone all together, apparently. He found a bolt to temporary tighten whatever it was that was causing the gear shift to be lose, but it's not the correct size, so temp fix. He said that the bolts to the 4wd unit were missing also. I guess I'll need him to clarify for me a little more as to specifically what I'm bolting to what so I can get this figured out.

I do appreciate your reply!

Ok, let's try a little harder. I don't normally help people with auto transmissions (I'm a stick shift guy) but you're so polite I'll make an exception.

I'm now assuming you are talking about the main transmission shift lever and not the 4wd transfer case lever, is that correct? Assuming yes, I see two bolts that are possible problems. One is the bolt that holds the handle on to the shift lever, and the other is the long bolt that holds the shift lever on to the top of the transmission. I'll assume it's that one, as just the handle screw would not cause the symptoms you describe. That long one could be faked with a smaller bolt.

So I'm thinking you need Control Shaft p/n 33516-35010 and nut 94130-60800 updated to 90170-A0003. There are also some bushings that may or may not be missing as well. Bushings are round short tubes that go between a shaft and a larger hole as sort of a bearing.

I would really suggest you get those from a Toyota dealer. They need to be the exact size, and the bolt is really a piece--Toyota calls it a Control Shaft--, not a standard fastener.

and

If you just go to a dealer you will pay maybe $5 more than these prices, but you won't have shipping. I would ask your shop teacher if he thinks the bushings are missing as well, because you need those. If they are, I can help with those, too.

On the other one, I really need more info. Is he maybe talking about the bolts that hold the front drive shaft to the front differential? But if you were missing all of them, it would fall off. I know it can't be the end that goes to the transfer case because those are fixed studs, not bolts. Maybe you are missing just the nuts that hold the front shaft to the transfer case studs? Those would be M10 locknuts plus a flat M10 washer. Nut p/n 90179-10059 and washer 90204-10002 in case you want to get them at the dealer. You would need four of each. I'd actually prefer to pay a little more to get the Toyota ones; they are a fairly critical part.

Ask your shop teacher if these sound like the right answers.

Your so awesome for giving this so much thought -- to the first part, yes, I'm thinking you are correct on that -- it is the gear shifter that's loose, not the 4wd shifter, and I believe it's the part that connects to the tranny.

The 4wd part I'm lost on -- I know when the guy who put my tranny in gave it to me, he said he still needed to get it back and finish "adjustments" to the 4wd at some point (he has gone MIA). When my school shop guy looked at it he said it was missing all the bolts! I thought the same thing -- what in the world is holding it together! I'll talk more with him about it tomorrow and try to narrow that down! Sounds like I need to get to the toyota dealer! Ugggg :-) Thanks again!

Thanks. That's exactly what I needed
