Borla Installation problem

Well, as the title says, I've encountered a problem in trying to install the Borla Exhaust. The screws/bolts connecting the tail end section to the muffler section is welded. The actual connection is not welded however, the bolts are welded on to the flange and to the screw. I think I gotta take it to a muffler shop and have them use an impact wrench to get it off (if that will even work). :bash: What a joy kill.

Are you trying to remove the stock setup? If so, I cut mine right above the rear axle with a sawzall, then removed the stock setup in two pieces.

At first I was hesitant, but bit the bullet. Luckily everything worked out well.

Sounds Awesome!

Oh Shoot my bad. I'm pretty stupid. :bash: :bash: :bash:
Abbs, you didn't have to cut it. The bolt are welded to the flanges, however, you have to access the screws from above and undo the screws. You don't have to cut the pipe. Figured it out from a local shop.

Sorry to be a little off topic... but abbs, Does the K&N and Borla make for a good combination? I have the intake but have been debating what exhaust to put on there for a while...was thinking Borla. Penny for your thoughts?

No problem, it was alot easier to cut, didn't keep the stock setup anyways. Self install time for me was about 2 hours, the hardest part was getting the rubber hangers off and on the supports.

As far as the K&N/Borla combo, they work well together with the V8. With just normal driving conditons you can hear the Borla rumble on acceleration. When you get on it you have a combination of the Borla and the whistle of the K&N through the gears till you level off, buddies of mine say that it sounds like a Mustang. I've driven behind it and it's got that throaty rumble but not annoying like some others.

I can definitely feel more horses pumping through. Also it feels as though there is a better response with the throttle, not that hesitation anymore. Can't beat the look of the dual setup either.

Performance wise, I did not see a loss in MPG until I went up a size in tire. Lost about 1 MPG.

My time frame for install:
Borla - 5/05
K&N - 4/06
265/70/17 - 4/07

Hope this helps.

The bolts on the axel-back portion can be taken off with a box-end wrench and a 2 foot breaker bar. We had to go up and over the muffler with the breaker bar to get them off, took about 10 minutes with the break bar.

To get the rubber hangers off really really easy, spray WD-40 on the hangers and they will slide off with ease.

Good Luck!

BE CAREFUL!!! Watch where your hands are in relation to sheet metal. I was installing my Borla on the T4R and came up against a VERY stubborn bolt, wrench slipped (I was putting quite a bit of force on it) and a piece of sheet metal cut right through my glove, through my skin and didn't stop until it my knuckle bone.

Had to go to the ER and get 5 stitches...I've been wrenching on vehicles for 18 years, I've NEVER had anything like that happen before...I should have just gotten the impact gun out :dammit:

So BE CAREFUL! Use a breaker bar if you feel like your using too much muscle.
