Borla vs Gibson exhaust sound

I installed my Gibson dual side exhaust several days ago and can't get used to the sound. My thoughts:

1)Very deep and rumbling, but TOO much for me, almost douchey and fake sounding when I accelerate from a stop. Like Barry White when he hits his low notes
2)Slight "drone" at 1500 rpm (not sure if this is what drone is, but there is a constant noise when I have my foot slightly on the pedal, like when I cruise around town, and this kind of bothers me)
3)Rattling - I've adjusted 3 times and it still rattles (can probably fix eventually with more tinkering)

I want: not as deep, not as rumbling, but still a little deeper than stock, more "refined" tone...

Is that what Borla is? At this point I am about to take the Gibson off and place back the stock exhaust.

This should give you an idea what to expect from a Borla muffler on a 5th gen. I can't say how this would compare to what you've got, but it doesn't sound like what you've got is what you wanted.

The Borla clips in the video are not at all offensive, actually quieter than I would have guessed, but I don't know what the rest of his exhaust consists of.

Drone is awful, I've never experienced drone with Borla mufflers.

Are you able to swap out the side exit for the rear single exit? Supposed to be quieter.

That's pretty interesting. I had mine on for only two days and I got so tired of the sound that I put the stock exhaust back on tonight. Just took an hour, whew. I actually LOVE the stock sound now.... cruising around the neighborhood, I feel like a ninja, instead of a loud belching 4Runner...

On that note, I am selling my Gibson dual chrome side stainless exhaust system. Lets say, $250 pickup from Sacramento. Installed for 2 days.

I have the Borla on mine, and it is slightly more sound than stock, but not nearly rumbly. My 2012 Tacoma had the TRD cat-back, which was a Borla system too, but it was a different system.

The Tacoma's are their "S" type sound where the 4Runner is the touring. My Tacoma had a drone around the same RPM's you were talking about, but the 4Runner has no drone, and I even installed the TRD CAI in my 4Runner.

There are exceptions! I've heard that Jaguar, and yes, it sounds good. Our 4runners however, do not. Same thing goes for 6 cylinder Mustangs. All the loud exhaust does is amplify bad.

Shooting without earmuffs used to be so loud, but not anymore.
