bosch starter

The truck is taking a little longer to start when cranking. I am thinking 'replace the contacts'. Try to order them and the parts house says let us know if it is the 1.4 or 1.8. I go look and discover my starter is a Bosch. I reckon that is a replacement? I got the truck with a little over 100k on it.

Any experience with the Bosch starter?

get a reman OEM Denso starter please don't go back with a Bosch!

I've seen a lot of negative threads regarding Bosch. Bad plugs, etc. I got suckered into buying Bosch wipers last month and they're already performing like they're old. Pull that garbage out.

Is it a LONG crank at normal speed or a SLOW crank. These happen for different reasons...

And just because some guys on the Internet think Bosch stuff sucks doesent really mean that's true. I've put tons of these starters and alternators in from Bosch on all makes and models and they tend to preform just fine and haven't had to warranty many.

I didn't say Bosch sucked..there are plenty of makes and models we don't mind using Bosch starters/ alternators on at the shop. but not fickle Toyotas that don't do as well with certain aftermarket parts. we have customers that'll drive the same car for 10 years and bring it to us for just as long so we get to see the longevity of these parts. certain vehicles we work don't do well with the Bosch starter.. however,when it has to spin a flexplate attached to what is basically an industrial strength tranny/ crank then yeah we're going with Denso.

If you hear clicking when turning the key, most likely the starter.

If not, look elsewhere, starting with the fuel pump and battery/battery cable ends.

It is cranking and starting, just sometimes seems a little slow to start. I wish I had some history on the truck as to repairs and maintenance.

I am not to the point of replacing the starter at all. I just figured I would go ahead and do the starter contacts as a PM job. Then discovered it is Bosch. If it dies I will get an OEM unit. In the meantime I will do a little research on the Bosch unit.

I made the mistake of replacing my oem with a Bosch a long time ago when it was probably just the contacts. The Bosch only lasted a few years before I was stranded at the gas station. I ended up ordering new contacts for a replacement OEM starter I got on eBay since I had an inkling the Bosch wouldn't last. That was 5 glorious trouble-free years ago. Pretty sure I only paid $20 for the ebay starter.

I don't know for sure, since I threw the box away after installing them. The s#!&&y kind, apparently. Got them at AutoZone.

I've been using the Bosch Icon wipers. I really like them.
