Bought me a 2001 today!

But I do have a few questions:

1. The VSC OFF light is on and next to it is VSC TRAC the light, also on. I am assuming that they should not be on?

2. Okay so I know I've asked already for someone to explain the whole center diff lock/"hybrid" tcase deal that the 2001s have.

But I now have a more specific question to help me the get hte overall answer I am looking for...

-so the tcase shifter is always in "H", which would be 2wd (rear wheel drive? or one front wheel and one back wheel? I HAVE BEEN TOLD BOTH)
-then when you press the 4wd button on the shifter will put it in "4H" and then shift the stick to "4L" obviously is "4L"...
-NOW what is the button with the "X" over the the center diff, which is located on the left hand side of the steering wheel next to the dash light dimmer knob...WHAT IS THAT THING? WHEN DOES COME INTO PLAY? WHEN SHOULD YOU USE IT?

3. Last question...My headlights wont turn off, when switched to any of the 3 positions, the headlights stay on...is that normal?!

1) Can you be more specific? WHEN do they come on, etc..

2) yes the shifter should be in the 4hi position to be in 2wd, just with 4x4 turned off. Once you hit the button on the shifter, it puts you in 4hi (unlocked) aka AWD. The button on the dash is center diff locker. Press it once the vehicle is already in AWD to put it in true 4wd. If this STILL does not make sense to you, youtube/google how 4x4 works..

3) its called daytime running lights. They can be disabled. 2002 4Runner: DRL Disable With On/Off Capability - YotaTech Forums

yeah you have DRL -daytime running lights.
and that button is the center diff lock i believe.

Well since you are in San Jose bring your new 4runner out to Frank Raines with us on Sunday. No way better to break in a 4runner than taking it wheeling.

Yeah it makes sense now, the reason it didnt make sense in any of the earlier posts was because I hadnt seen what the 4wd button, shifter positions or the diff locker button in person...the reason i had asked before i had seen then is because i was sure if i wanted to buy a 4runner with the center diff locker or the regular tcase setup and just the e locker.
again...sorry for the repetitive questions. just wasnt aware that the 2001s had different tcase than the previous models, which i have had two.

and to be more specific, those two lights are always on. from when i turn on the engine to when i turn it off...

on the re calibration how to you posted it said something about the VSC de-throttling unnecessarily, would that make a kinda of slight whinning noise? cause I did notice noise like that, which I have never heard before and kinda just shrugged it off...
