Has anyone hooked up a trailer brake controller to their 3rd gen runner.
Wanted to know how hard or easy it is.

Yep, I hooked up a Prodigy on mine. (BTW - It's a great controller, highly recommended!)

It's just a straight up wiring job (not a plug & play) as there is no factory harness pre-wired for this function.

The only "carefull" part was splicing into the tiny factory brake light wire.

Up under the dash, roughly above where the brake pedal is. You can reach it laying on the floor and looking up. (No disassembly required).

Thanks man. I'm going with the prodigy too? I hear only good things about it. I quess the blue wire runs back to the trailer hookup. What are you towing with yours?

I tow all kind of things. Utility trailer, 18' enclosed trailer, 23' boat.

It's amazing how well these trucks tow if you put on the better shocks (I have Tokiko Trekmasters) and have good trailer brakes. Sure you have to downshift and rev the engine on the longer hills, but the little 3.4 engine never overheats or complains. The bulkiest thing I tow i my 18' enclosed trailer and the Prodigy really pays for itself with that load.!

Thanks for the info too.......I have a 02 and tow a Pop up camper - I'm putting all new brakes assemblies on the trailer and will be installing a Prodigy controller too. What happens after you get that blue wire to the back of the car? how do you tie into the four prong that is there from the factory.

Any help would be appreciated.
