Brake drum backing plate replacement

Need a quick sanity check - can I replace the brake drum backing plates without having to press off the ABS tone ring and retainer? The dust ring on the perimeter that rides over the edge of the drum is rusted through on one side and beat to shit on the other.

Nope. Snap ring removed, then tone ring and retainer must be pressed off. And the bearing has to be pressed out of the old backing plate, or replaced.

Technically yes. You'll have to cut the old one off, and cut the new one to fit back on. Not the best method, but others have done it.

It's easiest to keep an eye on the local pick and pull place and get 2 whole new half shaft assemblies for like $25 each, if you can find a clean set with bearings that look ok.
