Hey everybody kinda new to the forum, and figured id join and maybe get a chance to go some meets. My dad gave me his '99 4runner and so far i enjoy it but kinda sucks that its only a 2wd. So lately i have been coming to a traffic light or sit in traffic and randomly while having my foot on the brake i begin to notice that the vehicle begins to roll forward and then i have to push the brake pedal further then the normal point. My friend and I bleed the front brakes and it solved the issue for two days and then it began again. Could this be a common issue? any info would be helpful.

When did it start? Before or after you guys bleed the brakes?
It sounds like you have a either some air still in your system or a hose that is leaking. I would start at each wheel and at each component (drums/discs) and start looking for fluid. Work your way back to the master cylinder. Chances are you will find it quickly based on the description of your problem.

does the brake pedal feel like its getting softer over time?
check the rod that goes from behind the brake pedal> into the firewall>master cylinder... If you see that it is wet or oily it can indicate master cylinder leak. or brake booster leak. Brake booster is the big black thing behind the brake master cylinder which assists in brake power. There is a vacuum line that goes to the brake booster check that for any vacuum/air leaks.
If it's not a leak in the system, check your calf muscles for soreness or lack of power. The calf muscle is located on your lower leg. Check that for any rips or tears.

it all began before my friend and i bled them, and after we only the front i drove it for two days and then it began again, and thinking about redo-ing it but all four from rear to the front.
I will go ahead and check to see if come across any leaks as well

Just bled my brakes. Had issues with pedal travel, sponginess. Bled again. And again. Bought speed bleeders $28 for 4. Online or auto parts store. Followed advice from this forum re ignition key in accessory position but engine not running. Several useful threads, Search and read. When using the brake pedal pump method be sure you do NOT push pedal all the way to floor. Put 2x4 or book or something behind pedal as a precaution to avoid this. Small gentle pedal pumps. Add fluid to reservoir when it gets to low mark. Bled once more. super simple with new speed bleeders. Def no air left in system. All is well and rock solid.

Yep sounds like the master cylinder. It doesn't have to be leaking externally for it to be bad. The seals inside can fail and let fluid push past the piston. With a slow leak this will cause the problem you are describing. Once enough fluid leaks past there won't be enough braking force to keep the vehicle still and it will inch forward like you described.
ok cool, well i will prolly be leaving the 4runner at the shop next week since my girlfriend will not be using her car because our first baby will be here friday if all goes well, but i will ask them to check out the master cylinder out and if so go ahead and replace it for me. i brought it to them before my friend and i had bled only the front and they said that the brake booster was fine and brakes were good but i dont recall them telling me anything about the master cylinder. so hopefully this will solve one of my issues and off to seeing why it seems like their is a humming vibrating noise when i get close to 70 mph or more and goes away when slowing down from 70.

Sounds like maybe you planted the brake to the floor too many times when bleeding. When bleeding older vehicles you want to take note of the distance the pedal sits off the floor while under pressure. Then when bleeding, use a block of wood or some spacer to not allow the pedal to go past where it stopped previously with pressure. Otherwise you send the cylinder past its previous set point and it will usually mangle older seals and such.

I think you are supposed to bleed brakes in a furthest-from-master cylinder to nearest-to-master cylinder sequence. Start with rear passenger side, then rear drivers side, then front passenger side, then front drivers side.
