Brake Issue?

Novice question, but figured someone would know...

I have a 03 Limited V8 4Runner...Currently has about 44k miles on it.

Since about 10-20k miles I have had squeaking sound from brakes. The sound only occurs when I gently apply pressure and goes away at full pressure on brake pedal.

I took it to shop at 30k mile service about 8 months ago and had them check for problems. Dealership said all is well and not to worry.

Well, here I am @ 44k miles and still have same problem.

Can anyone explain why squeaking happens with gentle pressure on brakes? Thanks much.

Is it more noticable when you start it in the morning or after it is parked for a length of time? If so, it can be due to rust on the rotors, which is normal. I hear a squeak only when I press lightly on the pedal until the rust burns off.

I actually notice after I have been driving for 10-15 minutes or so, rather than just after starting in morning. I was thinking rust as well, however since it still squeaks after a full day of driving, I thought not.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine do it every once in a while as well. As long as there's still life left in the pads, don't mess with it.

Next time you put new pads on it, put a little extra of the anti-squeel compound on the backs of the pads. That's about all you can do.
