Brake issue?

Just curious if any 2011 SR5 owners have the same issue with their brakes, or if i need to take a trip back to the dealer.

I picked my car up 2 days ago, and it seems the first half inch of brake pedal travel does basically nothing, its quiet strange. At first i thought maybe they needed to bed, but it hasn't changed. My room mate drove the 4runner around the block and he actually pulled over to check to make sure i wasn't leaking brake fluid. After the first half inch the vehicle stops adequately, but it seems far less sensitive then even my tundra (which has pretty good brakes for a truck, but its still a 6klb truck).

A 1/2" of play? I've never had a car that had that little play in any of the pedals...probably not even on my motorcycles. Did you mean 2"?

half inch might not have been completely accurate. if i slowly push on the pedal its nothing nothing, then braking force begins to increase. I came from an audi before with pretty awesome stock brakes so i'm not sure if its just the nature of the truck or something else. I'm going to drive it around today and see if i need to bring it back to the dealer.

I picked up my Blizzard Pearl, black leather, third row, 4wd sr5 two weeks ago. Its my wifes car. I have noticed that the brakes are a bit funny. I drive a 2001 jeep cherokee and her other car was a Range Rover and when you touch the brakes something happens immediately. With the 4runner, I love it, nothing happens until I press about two inches and then it is a bit much like its catching up, but it stops fine. I was gonna have the dealer check and see if the brakes need bleeding or is this the way toyotas respond. Its a great truck. No other complaints.

Personally I also love that it does this! Most trucks and true SUVs seems to also have this in common. It is nice to be able to take your foot off the gas and lightly rest it on the brake anticipating stopping but not actually having to apply the brakes just yet. I test drove a CR-V with the wife the other day, made her seatbelt lock up when I tried that . I hated that the minute my food touched the brakes that they engaged.

I purchased a 2011 SR5 two days ago and it has the same characteristics. My wife's vehicle grabs quick, my previous truck had about the same amount of pedal travel before engaging

I'm starting to think cars are being engineered for people so they don't need to learn how to drive. The ones who can call from their cell but don't know how to slip the car into neutral when the gas pedal is jammed up under the floor mat.
1. Press gas switch on when you want to go.
2. Press brake switch on when you want to stop.

The soft brake pedal is probably for the sensors that measure velocity for the brake assist program, to keep you from sailing thru the windshield. Just wildly guessing.
