brake pad knock/clunk

Recently did my brakes with brembo slotted rotors and performance friction carbon metallic pads, and two reman calipers. Put about 300 miles on them and today when I tap on the brakes I swear I hear one of the pads clunk or knock, almost like its loose in the caliper. Still stops great, no squeal just the knock on initial pedal engagement. I replaced all the pieces that came out with the new stuff the pads and calipers came with. I've heard of 4th gens having brake pad noise but never really seen anything on the 3rd gen forum. Any ideas?

I put on new rotors a few hundred miles ago (maybe not related) anyway out of the blue at low speed a got a shudder when I put on the brakes, it happened the next 2 brake applications along with a quick tire lock up at low speeds. It seems to be working ok now but everytime you put on the brakes it gets a single clunk . I took the wheel and caliper off and couldnt find anything that looked out of place, everything seemed tight nothing loose. I stood along side the vehicle while someone one else drove it, same thing I even though it might be from the suspension compressing with brake application but I pushed down hard while the vehicle was stopped and could get the sound. sorry no answers just more questions

The pads you used do not fit tightly. ( the metal backing plate is a tad short ) I had the same thing on mine after a front brake rotor and pad replacement to remedy a pulsing in the brakes.

I could not figure it out either, then one day while looking it over I pushed the caliper pistons back and was able to pry on the pads and see the movement (front to back).The pad backing plate width was maybe 1 0r 2 mm too short.

I think the parts were Wagner or something. They worked ok, but when I'd back up into a parking spot I would here a noise (Clunk). Those brakes lasted 2 years till the pulsing came back. Then I replaced them with Toyota rotors and pads. No more noise now and no pulsing in the brakes. I hope these were worth the extra $$$. Time will tell.

another possibility is the little springs that put tension on the pads. if you reused old ones they may be to worn, or if installed improperly they can cause these symptoms i believe.

also, did you grease anything on the pads?

No I didn't grease the pads and I suspect the springs that came with the pads were weaker than OEM or just flawed in some way. They work great, I have zero complaints with braking performance, just the noise is annoying. I still haven't pulled them apart to fix it, guess I'm getting used to it now.
