brake pads and rotors replacement cost

if I were to replace these, how much would it cost, I can feel a few ridges in the FRONT rotors and would like to replace them

I have a '04 4r sport 4wd with 265/65/17's..... any idea?

would not mind replacing with what came originally, just dont know what that is or where I may get it, IM A NEWBIE to toyota, but I honestly really really love this truck, any help would be appreciated, would love to do this myself...... and leave the stealership out of it......

Call your local dealer to get the cost for the stock rotors and pads.....

For aftermarket rotors, I recommend frozenrotors.com very good product with a much lower cost than Toyota rotors. Plus from what I've read and heard, they are supposed to have a much longer life than Toyota rotors.

As for pads, stick with Toyota....

check partznet for oem parts. their link is at the top of the page.. go into the mechanical parts search and drill down into the list to find what you need. their prices will beat your dealer. last time i checked they offer free shipping on orders over $150

If you do go with aftermarket I will second Frozen Rotors.

I replaced all 4 rotors with Frozen Rotors and replaced the pads with the Hawks and after about 3 1/2 to 4 months on the car all I can say is it's a big improvement over stock. Better breaking and the break pedal doesn't have that spongy feeling anymore.

In total it ran about $650 with shipping.

its the front only..... there is enough of a ridge in the rotor that i can feel it with my finger, not a gouge or anything just feels uneven.... also i hear a little squeal when i first hit the brake and then it goes away.......??? what else should I replace?

You cannot tell by feeling if the rotor needs to be replaced. When overheated, a rotor will warp, causing a pulsation. Other signs of stress include cracking, gouging and change in color, some can just corrode du2 age. If they have lots of grooves on them and the truck has fairly high mileage based on its age and you would be more comfortable changing rotors, do so.

Pads and rotors comprise the basic components of a brake job. If you have not done one before, have a friend help you. Search the forum, there are already detailed instructions on the how to's. It may be time to flush the brake fluid. I usually let the dealer perform this task.
