Brake Pedal locked along w/ vsc abs issues

Hello All,

I've been researching for two days on this site as to the cause of the vsc trac vsc off abs and brake! lights. I reset the memory once by disconnecting the battery but it threw the code again today on my way home and LOCKED the brake pedal in the up position where i could barely get her to stop. I'm looking for any help.

No codes were thrown on an OBDII scanner.

The two systems are separate. The check engine light is for an engine/tranny malfunction. The VSC is for the traction/stability system.

Since locking the center diff turns this system off, it makes sense it wouldn't throw a code. Two systems are isolated...

which means, you need to go to Toyota. It could be something simple, like a ABS wire busted or it could be your ABS pump relay..

Who knows. Since that system is like 75% electronically controlled, it will be hard to nail down gremlins if you are not a tech trained on it.

the third one has the zero point calibration try that first if it doesnt fix the issue check to make sure your gas cap is tight and if that doesnt work check all your wheel speed sensors, abs sensor wires. If that doesnt work you may have air in your brake lines that needs to be blead out so try a brake bleed. hope this helps

Unfortunately, the entire brake booster assembly will most likely need to be replaced, I don't know any independent shops that try to rebuild them and Toyota doesn't sell components, just the entire Staten. We also have no diagnostic procedures for testing the unit other than codes and elimination.
 
I had Toyota run a diagnostic for the issue. The codes thrown were c1251, c1256, c1252. They recommended that the hydroboost assembly be replaced...for $3000. I denied to have them fix it as I feel I am capable. They did not provide me the part number for the hydroboost assembly as I requested. So i need a little help gents.

What is the part number for that assembly?

Has anyone tackled this feat before?

Where do you suggest ordering the part from?

I found a used brake booster on ebay for 650. So, if ebay is that cheap I assume the genuine toyota part is probably closer to the 3k than the 650 just my guess. I would try to find one at a junkyard they don't go bad very frequently and for the most part are pretty reliable.

Pick and pull/Salvage yard would be my stop for the price concerned. I would rather have OEM used Toyota than crappy Chinese death pump.

i know its been a few months but i am going to be converting my 03 to a hydroboost and will be getting rid of my OEM unit....let me know if your interested....112k miles FYI
 
Interesting... I wonder if this will resolve the lag in the pump (some users report brakes need to be double pumped to quickly pressurize; instead of waiting for it to pressurize automatically when coming to a full stop.)

I don't "HAVE" to but I do double pump to gain some extra bite... I have bled the brakes a few times and have it narrowed down to the pump (slow) or the brake lines themselves (maybe I will move to steel<?> quality brake lines)
