Brake Rotors and Calipers....ANYONE PAINT THEM? LOTS OF PICTURES!!!! **

Hey there,

I am curious if anyone has cleaned up their rotors and calipers then painted them.

I am thinking about painting my spidertrax and rotors black and painting the brake caliper red.

What do you guys think? Would that be a good color scheme?

Ok.. man I know enough about cars about not painting the brakes etc lol....

I am talking about the calipers and the part in front of the rotors.. the grey rust brown part..


Anyways...does anyone have pictures of the work they done to their calipers and rotors?

You can paint the calipers using VHT paint.

You can paint the rotors, but not the part that the pads contact. This should stay pretty and rust free so there will be no need to . Tape off the clean shiny area the pads contact, and paint the "hat" of the rotor, which is usually what is ugly and rusty on them.
I havent done it myself, but plan on it. I was told the best thing to use is Rustoleum BBQ grill paint.

I painted my rotors on my 4th gen. The reason I painted them is because I started to get rust on them. Look at any 4th gen and you can clearly see plent of rotor...not just the friction surface.

On my 4Runner, the rotors are painted silver from the factory and that's the way I painted them too.

Hey all,

I finally got around to painting my calipers and spraying more undercoat in the wheel wells. My 285's STT's are in the mail on the way to my front door step soon more pics to come!! SO i needed to get some of this done before I mount the new monsters on.........'

I used 2 full cans of the 3M undercoating and duplicolor caliper spray paint. I used 320 grit to rub the calipers down and then ran some 400 over that. I probably could of got away with just using a red scotch brite pad and scuffing them up because the calipers were in good shape. Anyways hope the pictures give you guys some ideas because I didnt get much when I asked about some pictures when i was looking to paint them.

I painted my calipers last weekend red using the G2 kit...great kit and plenty of paint for 3 coats...I even had enough left over that I used it on the front TRD skid plate painting the embossed TRD.

It is a brush on system so you have less masking and zero overspray to worry about and states it is guaranteed for life if it ever cracks, flakes, etc. they will send you a new kit. But the labor is really the issue not the cost of the kit.
