Brake Rotors for the long commuter

Wow! I didn't know this! :shocked:

Maybe this is actually what's happening. I know my rotors are on their last run. Last time I had them turned the guy said they were pretty close to being out of spec and said it would be the last turn. This has been quite awhile ago, now. Been across the US and back TWICE since then, and my commute is crazy as well. I get a little bit of pulsation in my steering wheel and happens after heating them up from good 'ol stop and go highway driving. Assumed it was just time for some new rotors and pads, since the pads are getting down there. I know I'm due EITHER WAY, but does it sound like I have a caliper issue now??

Now you guys have me concerned. If the caliper is locking up, I'm going to guess it will destroy new rots, eventually. What do I look for?? It doesn't seem to pull or anything like that. Locks up, sorta' easy, though.

What does EBC offer for a warranty on their rotors??

EBC On Every Vehicle

I've put EBC pads and Rotors (when rotors are needed) on all of my cars and I've had great experiences. Especially on my Wrangler. The stopping was so crisp and much more firm than it was before. Now, is that saying something for EBC, or against chrysler? Either way, I've never had an issue and would recommend them to anyone for any application.
 
scootermcrad: I have a suspicion I have a siezed caliper and plan to pull the tires this weekend to check. If I find one Ill take a picture and post it. I have the larger rotors and plan to go with the EBC green once I can get th cash together. I dont have the rotors nailed down yet though. Having to buy a new caliper isnt going to help the money situation.

I have looked at those brake motive rotors and read the reviews on ebay. Most of the people seem happy but those were probably right after install reviews.

riceandpho: I have seen you mention the rotors in a couple other posts. Do you have any complaints or know how well they are holding up? They are a great price. I would assume drilled and slotted dont fare well with turning because of burrs and the interrupted cuts.
 
I goot no problems with the brakemotive rotors, i do have about 95lbs on each corner since my rim and tire setup. Everything brakes fine, i do use ebc pads with it. These rotors have not been resurface since i got them installed out of the box, no vibrations at all. I think if i need to get them turned, pepboys might do the job, they have the machine to do it for ebc version of the slot and dimple rotors.
 
I just had new ebc green pads put on my rear brakes for the 1st time at 90k miles. Better braking power but holy moly those pads create a lot of dust! I'll go back to stock when I get them replaced.
 
if you bed them in properly, its not that dusty when you first have them installed, the bed in material suppose to speed up the process. give it some time itll be less dusty than the sumitomo pads toyota use.
 
Had a thought last night. After I'm ready to replace pads again with the EBC rotors and need to have them turned, can anyone with a brake lathe turn these, or is there only certain types of lathes that can turn these vented rotors?

Been really paying attention to my braking, since we started talking about this. This thing really brakes pretty nice. In fact, I tested it in a straight line last night on perfect pavement and it doesn't pull at all. Even when I DO feel vibration in the steering wheel it's minimal and it only seems to be at speeds over 60, after after I've been driving for about 10 minutes, and only when I'm braking lightly. When I put my foot in it to come to a quick stop, it doesn't do it. Grabs and brakes pretty decent. In fact, the only complaint I DO have is sometimes it will grab a little TOO much and lock it up for a split second and I also HATE HATE HATE the ABS on this thing. SCARY. Hated the ABS on my Gen 3 4Runner as well. But the ABS is a whole nother topic...
 
UPDATE!

Yesterday I installed the EBC front rotors with the green pads and so far am about 50 miles into them and have to say there is a noticeable difference in the feel of these pads. Now, grant it, I went from some beat pads and rotors to the new rotors and pads, but I don't recall them ever feeling like this. The brakes on this thing have always been less than awesome, in my mind. It seems it's on it's way to awesome feeling for this SUV.

On a side note, I inspected and cleaned the calipers and they appeared to be in good working order, as far as I can see. Pistons are not stuck.

I'll do an update when I have some more miles, but so far two thumbs up!
