Brake Rotors

Hi all,
I need some advice. I bought a 2008 4Runner last year. I have been told that my front rotors are warped. Would you recommend replacing or resurfacing the rotors? I don't know if they've ever been resurfaced before but I don't know what's best. I don't tow anything but I do drive up and down the east coast about 4 times a year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I guess depends on how many time it has been resurgaced in the past and how badly is warped. Does it vibrate a lot when you brake hard at highway speed? My last 4runner had that symptom and it got fixed with just resurfacing.

My T4R doesn't vibrate when brake but when it closes to stop, or applying break lightly, it still not vibrate but it makes the T4R jerk. Meaning it feels like someone would press on break, let go slightly, press again, over and over... I have replaced the front rotors and pads but it didn't help. Should I replace the rear rotors and pads too?

just buy some brembo blanks and factory pads, be prepared to change the calipers too !!, search the forum, plenty of threads on this.

It seems that your issue is due to the infamous bump from the shaft. Grease the yoke and that should fix it.

If the rotors are badly warped, you should feel a pulsation of the brake pedal when you brake. All rotors have a minimum thickness specification. They can be safely machined down to that thickness before they must be discarded and replaced. Have a reputable shop check the thickness against the Toyota Specifications and see if they can be machined.

Do Not resurface warped rotors. Once cooked metal structure and integrity is gone. Get new set. EBC is good bet but lil $$$. GL

There is a lot of vibration when I brake from 45 mph or higher. There's a slight steering wheel shake as well. Unfortunately, I'm not a car buff and I haven't found a trustworthy mechanic. Two mechanics say it's the front rotors and they need to be replaced. One mechanic says it's the front rotors and they need to be resurfaced. One mechanic says it's the steering linkage. I just don't know who to believe!!

Is this still an indication of warped rotors? It sounds like there isn't the any brake pedal vibration that is usually linked to warped rotors.

This is a major problem with the 4-piston calipers. If one or 2 pistons are sticking...then the symptoms are the same as a warped rotor. Check the calipers first...if they need replace them....when done if you still have vibration..then replace the rotors.
