Brake Squeak and another odd sound.

I debated whether to do this in 2 posts or one, decided on one.
This is a 2021 Limited with 3K miles.
First is brake squeaking. I did some searching before asking and what I've found is most get this noise when brakes are cold. Many after a humid or plain wet night. Seems like a common problem from my search. Mine isn't either of these circumstances. It's random but I'll say it hasn't happened to me when completely cold or 1st thing in the morning and never again throughout the day. Has this been solved with a solution other than live with it?

The 2nd noise which actually cause the 4R to give me a audible warning, sounded like ABS kicked in. That can't be the case. I backed out of a parking place, put the truck in D, pressed the accelerator then the ABS like sounding noise occurred. Dry pavement as well.

It went away quick, I'm not trained to keep my eyes on the dash to catch a 1second warning on the display, so have no idea what the system was complaining about and haven't been able to duplicate. Yet

Hope I'm not being a newbie pain. Building a list of things B4 the 5K Dealer oil change. When that time comes, they can address a list of things that aren't right. Gotta slam the Drivers door to close for instance.

2nd item is probably the DAC system kicking in. You may have been backing up on a slope. When you changed from reverse to drive the computer may have sensed that you were rolling backwards and kicked in the system momentarily.

This has caught me off guard twice and every time it would scare the carp out of me.

Are you talking about the ABS self-check that happens every time you start the car and drive off?
It’s in your manual...sort of...
■Sounds and vibrations caused by the ABS, Multi Terrain ABS (if equipped), brake assist, VSC, Trailer Sway Control, TRAC and hill-start assist control systems
● A sound may be heard from the engine compartment when the brake pedal is depressed repeatedly, when the engine is started or just after the vehicle begins to move. This sound does not indicate that a malfunction has occurred in any of these systems.
●Any of the following conditions may occur when the above systems are operating. None of these indicates that a malfunction has occurred.
• Vibrations may be felt through the vehicle body and steering.
• A motor sound may be heard also after the vehicle comes to a stop.
• The brake pedal may pulsate slightly after the ABS or Multi Terrain ABS is
activated.
• The brake pedal may move down slightly after the ABS or Multi Terrain
ABS is activated.

No that's not it. I only mention ABS because the sound was similar. I could also describe is a chatter coming from 2 gears slipping from not being fully engaged.

I've been trying to replicate it but so far no go.

I also think the second one sounds a lot like the *Hill start assist*, (different from the DAC) which does activate the brakes. It scared me when I drove it home from the dealer.

The other part is maybe dac kicking in. I've only had the anti skid kick in when I've rolled backwards before hitting the gas in my driveway once or twice. Computer doesn't realize I'm not sliding right away, just gravity.

Well that's interesting. I just read a short explanation and watched a vid on DAC. Thanks for leading me there as I'm still learning about this truck.

I'd guess that unless there was a malfunction with DAC/CPU, this shouldn't have been the cause for the chatter. I was in Full Time 4WD and DAC wasn't activated. The parking lot had maybe a 3degree slope but?????

IMO there was nothing unusual, challenging or stressful with the maneuver. I've since thrown the truck into "D" while rolling backwards & immediately giving it gas. Haven't been able to replicate.

At this point I'm not going to lose sleep. Just curious is all.

100% this is what the sound you heard was from. You haven't replicated it because it takes a pretty good backwards roll to get it to go off. Freaked me out the first time I did it in my old 4R.

The factory 4R brakes are horrible. Either live with them for while or replace them right away with Raybestos performance slotted rotors and Akebono ceramic pads. This combo makes the braking amazing vs crappy and squashy with lots of fad.

Interesting. I've done some searching for brake squeal solutions but didn't find anything. I did see a bunch of experienced folks here promote OEM brakes over others. Antman was one exception.

You used the term "Factory Brakes" not OEM. So the question is, is there a difference between Factory and Dealer Purchased?

Is there a real difference in TRD pads and rotors vs what came with my 2021 Limited?

There are two lines of Toyota brakpads. The part numbers that end in TM are a lower price point.
Three if you count TRD. I don’t know anything about those.
