Hi guys,
I'm hoping I can get some help diagnosing a brake squeak.
About 500-600 miles ago, I refreshed my front brakes with a 5th gen set. I went with the Stoptech pre-coated calipers, Centric rotors, and Akebono pads.
Initially, I didn't put in any new shims, causing me to have excess brake pedal travel for the first few hundred miles. I've addressed this and my pedal travel has returned to normal, but I've been getting a squeak I can't seem to pinpoint.
The squeaking typically happens at low speeds around 15 mph. Typically when I'm coming to a stop and have light brake pressure. I'll also get it when I'm creeping forward in traffic. The squeaking goes away once I've been driving for 20 or so minutes, or have done some aggressive stops.
I've used the green permatex brake lube on the caliper pins, between the shims and piston, and between the shim and pad. Akebono also claims you don't need to bed in their brake pads, but I've done the process anyway (50-10 five times).
I've also removed the pads and checked for foreign debris. Found two tiny metal flakes. Also saw that my dust shield was barely touching the back of the rotor-- bent it back away. Squeaking is still haunting me.
Any ideas? I would appreciate any fresh perspectives. Thanks in advance.
