Brake Warning Light on Dash Flickering

The red dash warning light that usually comes on when the parking brake is activated is beginning to flicker on and off on my 2000 SR5 2WD.

The light will go off when I release the parking brake but when I make right turns or accelerate hard, the light will come back on for a few seconds and then go away. I've checked to make sure the parking brake handle is down and it is.

I'm assuming this light is only associated with the parking brake and therefore could an adjustment or something be required?? I've owned the vehicle since new in 2000 and never experienced this problem before. Vehicle brakes were replaced probably six months ago and no trouble from then till now.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Check the level of your brake fluid. I worked for Toyota for 6 years and 90% of the time whenever someone said the brake warning light came on it was because the fluid level was low.Especially since it flickers on and off which is symptomatic of low fluid level and the sensor inside the reservoir.

+1

I'd bet my paycheck it's the fluid level. All of my 4Runners were VERY, VERY sensitive to the brake fluid level being right up to the line. I'm talking about a teaspoon being enough to make a difference.

The cooler weather most likely has played a roll in your level being just a tad low.

I'm going to have to +1 on using the search function on this one.

I can get some more links if needed but PLEASE search next time, this thread question is older than the bible. Yes that's possible since god himself invented the 4runner . . .
