brakes jutting before and after new rotors and calipers, ect ect

so i was having real bad jutting on the runner 1999 , it has been happening for quite some time now and so to fix this replaced the calipers pads and rotors, drove it 100 miles and now the problem has returned the same as it was before. i have read about the rotors warping from larger tires ans such but everything is stock in that reguards and it seems as if that the rotors should have not warped again already, so i'm thinking it maybe an ABS problem, is it possible to have the ABS mis-calibrated ? it seems as if the abs is kicking in all the time or is stuck on, either that or the rotors are severally warped again after only a 100 miles......thoughts on where to look next could abs be my problem?

x2. Also, warping rotors are not nearly as common as people think. This is only more true when you use high quality or OEM products, so do not replace the rotors on a whim. A shop can check them for warping or resurface them if necessary.

Could you explain "jutting".

alot like when the abs is applied, when i depress the pedal it goes in till i start to feel friction and at that point the brakes will release temporarily and then reengage to the same point of where i had the pedal pressed it makes no difference on how much pressure is applied, the grab, release, grab, release of the brakes is what i call jutting, even though i'm sure i'm not the only one who's used that term to describe what is going on...lol

i also just replaced everything to save this whole trouble shooting step, i figured i'd just replace it all, pads, calipers, rotos ect ect , all done with oem parts.

ya, that definitely sounds like your abs. One way to tell if it is or not is to pull the fuse for the abs and see if it still does it.

This happen to me also. With new rotors and pads. It happened for at least a month or so. I just ignored it since it wasnt getting worse. And it didnt effect my performance or stopping power at all. The mechanic said that it happens sometimes. ( dont know if thats true ) But the "jutting so to speak" has gone away and hasnt happened since to me.

lol that's funny, mech told you "it just happens sometimes" well yeah it does but there is a cause and solution for it, that's not really an answer more of an observation lol. after doing some more reading it seems as if the abs senors could be dirty, apparently they work with magnets to sense the position of the brakes. a simple on/off mech designed to the force/strength of the magnet what can happen sometimes is that metal shavings or even iron from minerals in the road can stick to them and cause an interference in the offset of the magnet, which in turns makes the abs engage too early or not when needed, the only other components in the abs system that i think it could be would either be the proportioning valve or the abs pump it's self.

i'll try removing the fuse today @ lunch and see if that fixes the problem, then start back tracking here, everything above is just from reading and a little bit of thought experimenting lol.

thanks alot for the info and help guys! if there is anything else you guys think i may have missed let me know, i can take the heat!

if this is happening, another thing to think about is that there is wheel speed sensors that are ran off whats called an abs toner ring. if there is debri or the not aligned right, it gives skewed readings to ecu. this in turn the brains thimks hey one wheel or two or whatever may be slipping, causing abs to kick in... this may not be the case but something to look in to. if and of the wires are messed up to these sensors could cause it too.

Is there the audible abs sound? if abs is kicking in, there should be the sound of it kicking in as well.

Another thing we see problems with like this is inner tie rod ends loose. and or power steering rack bushings are common as well. id have these items checked and go from there.

rotors tend to become warpped over the life of the pads under normal driving and should be machined every pad replacement but it would be hard to severly warp rotors to the point where it causes that sensation.

Lastly, check rear axle seals... if oil is leaking into rear drums, and the vehicle is driven for longer periods of time, it tends to heat up the shoes and drums causing a similar problem.

let me know if you find something out.

Zero noises, the abs isn't kicking on.

I have no vibrations while not on the brakes, so that pretty much rules out tire/suspension issues. Drives smooth down the freeway, no noises when turning, etc. It's only when I touch the brake pedal.

I've slowed down using only the ebrake and I don't get the vibration, so I think I can rule out the rears as being the culprit. Once I touch the pedal, I get the vibration.

I have replaced the front rotors with brand new duralast's, but left the pads as they looked almost brand new. After replacing the rotors, I pulled out of my garage and still had the issue. I guess I could have gotten a bad set of rotors, but that is unlikely.

I picked up a new set of front and rear pads, going to throw them on tonight. The front rotors only have maybe 1000-1500 miles on them, so I'm not going to bother turning them. I had the rear drums turned about 250 miles ago to see if that helped (which it didn't) so I should be fine throwing new shoes on there as well.

I also spent about an hour bleeding the brakes, just to make sure air in the lines wasn't my issue. Didn't seem to help at all.

It's not even a "vibration", its more of a "jerking" sensation. It feels like I'm pushing harder on the brake then letting off, then back on, over and over again until I come to a complete stop. At higher speeds (freeway) it turns into a vibration which is in the steering wheel as well as the pedal.

I'll report back after I swap in the new pads on all 4 corners.

Other than ABS, that brake system is really simple. I can't imagine what else it could be but rotors/pads causing that problem. I've rebuilt the brakes on my 98 about 6 times in the last 6 months due to putting on the 199mm Tundra calipers and rotors and the only vibration/jerking I got was because of warped rotors. I can't wait to see if new pads help.

Could it be a rotor is not sitting flat against a hub or a hub is bent? Clean the hub surfaces.

I replaced rotors before and found that they weren't true (Powerslots). I had them turned at Schwabby and that fixed the pulsating.

I pulled the front rotors, I brought them both back and got 2 new ones on warranty.

Installed new rotors, new pads, new rear shoes and re-adjusted the rear shoes.

Took it for a drive....the pulsating is still there.

I give up, guess it's just something I'll have to live with.

Bolt the rotors to the hubs without the wheels on. You will probably need some spacers or extra bolts to make up for the wheels. Spin the rotors checking for wobble. While looking through the caliper you should be able to see the problem. I'm thinking you have a bent hub or bad bearing.

Sorry guys on vacation ..short sweet answer .. was fixed simply by turning the rotors on the hubs . No abs involved. was a tolerance stack up problem. Hope this helps .happy holidays all.

Sway bar endlinks look good and are entact. Tie rods show no play using the normal "grab at 3 and 9 o'clock and wiggle" method.

I noticed a slight pull today towards the driver side. I'm going to pick up a new caliper tomorrow and see if that helps.

Ok sorry dude I got confused cause multiple peolple are having this problem... explain to me again what kind of condition you are having and what all you have done.

Sorry, I probably should have started my own thread on this, but I figured I'd see if the OP found an answer first since our problems seem similar.

I'm getting a "pulsation" when braking. It's significant enough at highway speeds to shake the steering wheel. Slowed down using ebrake only, no pulsation.

So far I have:
Bled Brakes
New Front Rotors (2 different sets now)
New ceramic pads
Turned rear drums and adjusted shoes
Checked for suspension issues (tie rods, etc) with no obvious issues

No vibrations or noise while driving at any speed, no noises while turning. No abs light.

I'm going to try and pick up a set of known good calipers tomorrow, so I can rule those out...
