Well after seeing all the people with brake troubles, which i know is very common on 4runners (then again all stock vehicles), who has upgraded their brakes? I am planning on upgrading mine and am looking for ideas. Im planning on replacing rotors, calipers, and pads up front and just new shoes in the back. Probably powerslot, brembo or EBC.

PS has anyone attempted/read up on/found rear drum to rotor conversion kits?

The best one I have heard is to go with Tundra disc brakes. As for the rear I'm sure you could swap in a rear from a disc brake 4runner, but you need to make sure you get one with the right gearing and you would need to work out issues with the proportioning valve and the anti-lock brakes.

For many vehicles you can buy a drum to disc brake adapter. It's a type of hub and it has a built in system for a parking brake seeing that you wouldn't have one anymore. I was planning on updating to a aftermarket set, and i don't know if a tundra size would fit in my 16" stock limited rims but if it did i would still upgrade from stock to aftermarket.

hey andrew the tundra brakes will fit your stock 16 lim. wheels. I just did this to my 2000 sr5. I ordered my calipers used off of TundraSolutions.com its another forum. then got stock toyota disc and hawk ceramic pads. stops like a dream.. stay away from the 4runner brembos.. i did this first and roasted them in about 2 months.. you will need calipers stamped sw13e or they are referred to as the 199mm tundra calipers. they fit with only minor trimming of the dust guard. hope this helps

thanks a lot i'm surprised that the brembo 4runner brakes cooked but the only true test is time and i guess they didnt hold up so i guess ill be going with tundra calipers. Mike what type of calipers did you get? Has anyone had any experience with aftermarket rotors?

I bought some used tundra calipers of tundra solutions from a member there... they are stamped with SW13E
