Brakes

Ok I have a 96 SR5 with the 16 inch wheel package and I can't get brakes to last more than 9 months. Is there a longer better lasting Brake pad? or do I just need to change my driving style, or is that just how brakes are going to be on the 4runner?

Chitrod,

9 months?! That is kinda short for brake pad life. How many miles in that 9 months?? I know that, since changing to non-abestosis materials, brake pads from Toyota (and other makers) have a much shorter lifespan. It is not unusual to see brake pads wearing out at 20,000 miles.

From reading of different owners, Toyota pads are considered the best in terms of quality, brake dust, etc. There are better braking pads out there, but they tend to not last as long or produce an enormous amount of dust. Most people would recommend sticking to OEM Toyota pads.

But still, 9 months is a bit fast.... How many miles??

Good luck.

I don't know how many miles it has been since then. I do know that I am one of those people that don't use the brakes until i want to stop so that is going to shorten their life a little, I don't know what kind of pads they put on last time I should have told them to do Toyotas. Maybe they just gave me some cheapo pads, or maybe my rear brakes aren't tight enough or something like that?

sounds like raybestos autozone specials. pay the extra cash for the high quality Toyota pads and shoes. mine lasted about 90k. (4 years)
