Brand new brushgaurd ruined!

Last light I was heading into work in my 3rd gen. It's been snowing for 48 hours and the roads where an absolute mess. I opted out of taking my carolla in as usuall. I was on the I80 and had just taken the 4x4 off as the the roads looked to be clearing I was doing about 65 and out of know where the rearended kicked out. I about lost it right in front of a semi thinking dam that was scary.

No sooner than I was thinking how lucky I was the backend completely came around on me going sideways down the freeway waiting for it to roll and flying off the left shoulder heading across the median with oncoming cars headed toward me, so I'm thinking so this is how I die!
I ended up stopping before hitting the wire guardrail that runs next to the oncoming lane. The runner chocked on starting and fired right up. I ended up in over 3 feet deep snow which I amazingly drove out of. I couldnt even believe with snow up to the doors it pulled out in 4low. Needless to say I'm terrified of the backend coming around on me and feel like even the slightest bit of slush I need to be in 4x4. I'm thinking now may be a good time to get a v8 AWD.

The best/worst part was I just put on my bullbar the week before and it kept the bumper protected. So I'm out 160.00 so got all the peeps saying bullbars cause more damage not in every case . Ive always been a fan if 2x4x option but always find myself questioning what condition warrants the 4x4 as 98% of the time 2x is okay while saving wear/gas but then you hit that one patch if area and you loose it!! Anyone else find this to be true or hdve any experiences where the backend has come out on you ?

65mph was WAY too fast for the roads here yesterday, man, AWD or not. I don't think you should switch to a 4th gen, it'll just end up costing you that much more when you wreck it . I think you should slow down, and maybe think about some winter tires.

I was out in most of the storm yesterday in my wife's '99 on brand new duratracs. I was in 4wd all day, and I don't think I ever went above 40 mph until the late afternoon. 4WD is not a recipe for speed on ice and snow - 4WD is a recipe for movement on ice and snow, but it will not help you corner and it will not help you slow down. Take it easier in the slick stuff next time, ok? If you're questioning whether or not you need 4WD, you shouldn't even be thinking of doing more than 45mph. And that goes for the AWD guys too.

LOL man, I was a passenger in a Honda Civic in a major head on collision, seat belt broke my collar bone, I got a weird twitch from it, or another time a minor collision and I am out the $500 deductible and all the hassle. Other people have died from accidents. You roll it, your out $160 but you are still alive, and all of your body parts still work, you can still go after the old lady (I can too, it wasn't that bad). Consider your self lucky and a cheap lesson.

Slow down and take your time to get where you are going alive. From experience working The entire day of storm, people are way to overconfident and don't realize how quickly conditions change, especially in Utah. In Davis county alone there were way to many accidents most if not all caused by driving too fast for conditions. Slowing down and driving cautiously could have prevented almost all of them.

Utah is notorious for black ice. Drive more precautionary in less than desirable conditions and everyone on the road will be safer.

Let it be known that I'm not trying to chastise people but rather hopefully educate so I don't have to work as many car accidents during the next storm :bigok:
