Breather locations

Hey Guys,

I have a 03 SR5 V8 and I can see one breather tube in the engine compartment near the right side of the engine near the master cylinder. I assume that this line is for the front diff. I can't find the transmission and transfer case breather lines. It seems with the V6 there are 2 in the engine bay. I've been searching the forums for over a week and I just can't find out where they are.

unfortunately toyota didnt hook up the V8 guys with multiple extended breathers. you are correct the one to the right of the engine under the hood is the front diff breather. the rear diff breather is located on the rear axle housing on the drivers side of the third member carrier housing. (you can connect a hose barb fitting x 1/4" male national pipe thread. raise this breather to the gas cap area or any other location you find convenient.)

the transmission and transfer case breathers are located on the top of the transmission and transfer case. I personally haven't found a good way to get to these to add breather extensions myself but plan to get to it soon.

Thanks for the info aha2988. The lines on top of the transmission and transfer case must go somewhere. I was just looking at some prints and it shows it going up, I wonder if perhaps its located under the shifter? I guess the real reason for asking is because I want to know what's the deepest water I can cross assuming I extend the rear axle breather.

Assuming you dont have a snorkel the deepest you can go is just below the top of your front fender line where the air box pulls air in from the fender. or about half way up the door panals (half way between door handle and rocker panel)

if at any moment water comes in the cab move hastily to get out of the water because your ECU is right in the foot area of the passenger floor board.
