Any reason not to use the Toyota upgrade pads on these?

What are Toyota Upgrade pads? For some reason, I can't view that site.

But, I would go for some good ceramic set. OEM is okay, but better choices out there. Look at Hawk LTS on tirerack. I went with Autozone ceramic pads for $40 and they've done well. Definitely more bite than OEM.

i bought some wearever rotors (non drilled or slotted) at my local auto parts store, and they ran me about $46 each.

I cant see a reason to buy a rotor from brembo when you getting a stock, non slotted, non drilled rotor. Just get the mid grade equipment at the parts store, it will prob be cheaper.

I see your point nserpa-the local auto parts stores were within about $10 a rotor. I could have saved $20 by going with a no name but wanted to give the Brembo name a try. Free shipping and no sales tax kind of cemented the deal. I am starting to like this online shopping.

I have read good opinions on the blank Brembo rotors on Yota Tech and over here I believe. I will hold onto my old rotors but I will be shocked if they are worth turning. I just crossed 73K on my rig and from the looks of it the brakes have never been touched.

The Toyota upgrade pads are ones I read about on Yota Tech-they are actually "green" in color and as I understand it a recommended upgrade over "stock" 4Runner pads for the front disc brakes. $57 with my Landcruiser Assoc. discount, and yes I could certainly spend less on a set of pads., just want to give these a try in combo with the new rotors.

I don't think anyone that does not tow on a regular basis needs the Tundra brake upgrade. It's fine if you want to do it, but I don't think it's necessary. I had 90k on my first set of rotors (I live on a very hilly area, mind you. And go up to the ski resort regularly--lots of braking coming back down). If my next set lasts 90k, I'm fine with that.

I would've also gone with Brembo blanks (excellent rotors), but the only reason why I didn't was because Autozone had their rotors in stock and had a 2 year warranty. If they end up warping, I could exchange them the same day. Same with their pads. Online shopping has definitely changed the market, but I still cringe at having to deal with customer service over the phone (been there and done that too many times) and shipping stuff back and forth. I'd rather just go into a local store and talk to a person face-to-face. But that's just me--I'm old school.

thanks Mr dabadina-yes I did read up on the Tundra upgrade but as others noted, the actual increase in swept area for the pads was minimal.

I really have no complaints with the performance of the 3rd gen brakes, compared to a 2nd gen my newer one stops like a Vette.

Yeah... I don't have a problem with my OEM brakes. I still have my original brakes with a 150,000 miles on them. You read it right...150,000 miles:biggrin2:. I checked them about a month ago and can probably let them go till spring. They never have let me down and stop perfectly fine. IMO its how you use your brakes that determines the longevity of your brakes. And if warped rotors are a problem you have, the Tundras would be a great solution. I was just letting the O/P know that there are options out there.

I'm in total agreement with you, dabadina...

If your brakes get warped, upgrading to tundra is a good choice...if not, then the 4runner brakes are fine

It REALLY depends on how you drive, for example, I know a couple girls who drive with one foot on gas and one on brake, just out of habit...this means their left foot is on the brake a LOT, however slight it may be, it still wears out the brakes REALLY fast...I'm careful with mine, and they last a LONG time...

Just had my front brakes done with some autozone pads (cant remember brand), and had my rotors turned (for the last time before they MUST be replaced) and it all feels real nice...

NOW INSTALLED

Install completed Monday 2/18 at Irbis OffRoad.

The pedal feel and the bite of the new pads is significantly improved. Here I thought my existing brakes were okay-I am probably now stopping in 10-20% less distance-guesstimate at my favorite intersections.

I highly recommend the factory upgrade pad and the part number is in my initial posting above.
