Next up replacing my near 8 year old Infinity Kappa front components with new Infinity Kappas. Out with the old.
My left tweeter gave out and the crossover module looks a bit rusted but I don't know for sure why it decided to quit. Anyways I liked sound so I bought this new pair of Infinity Kappas to replace the old. They had a $100 off sale at Crutchfield and I snagged these for ~ $175 + tax.

Well I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the new Kappas. I probably wouldn't recommend them as a brand. My biggest gripe is that the quality appears to have dropped significantly just by looking at the speakers themselves.
They do sound ok. It was my left tweeter that burned out so I only replaced the left front side. Going from L/R balance repeatedly I would say they sound similar audio quality but the older set on the right sounds slightly better and louder. Also the design of the crossover box itself is just really stupid. You have to open it up to attach the wires and there is no clear electrical guide telling you which wire goes where. Completely unacceptable for a set that retails at $299.
You can see the quality difference in this attached picture.
I'll keep an eye out this New Year's for any sales. Maybe I'll switch over to Alpine. I am already running an Alpine HU and 2 amps.

Been lurking for quite a while. Love your truck, maybe I'll see it around somewhere. I'm in SD as well, MM2 on the old CG-52 Bunker Hill. How do you like the Grabbers? I'm running 265/75 ST Maxx right now, but I'm really liking the new ATX and thinking about moving up to 285/75. Cheers mate

Thanks for stopping by. I'll admit my posts have been a bit slow lately. It has been a few months since did any off-roading although I did just take the truck up to Mineral King near Sequoia for 4 days of camping and hiking. That place is amazing. I'll post some pictures once I get a chance to go through them all.
CG-52 nice. I was on CG-54, did my 6 and left as an STG E-5 SW back in 2006. At the time it was stationed in San Diego but it has since been moved to another port.
About the tires, moving up is a mixed call. I'm not sure if I were to do it again that I wouldn't just stay at 265x75x16 31.5". 33s are cool looking but the difference is small and the power loss, while managable is real.
BTW Nice avatar. I assume you've watched the Apollo 11 documentary simply named Apollo 11? I saw it in a true super-IMAX at the Dulles aerospace museum in Virginia. Simply amazing. The Blu-ray is great also. APOLLO 11 Official Trailer
Anyone else who hasn't seen this yet GO BUY THE BLU-RAY NOW. This film only came out a few months ago in theaters and it is restored 65mm (Almost IMAX) film of the space launch.
Watch it because:
1) never been aired before, it was found in the national archives and
2) you have never ever seen this kind of high-res footage of any space launch ever because all the usual footage is 35mm (vs 65mm & 70mm)
3) it is basically like time travel
4) the documentary is one of the coolest I've ever seen. There is no talking into the camera, no politics, it is simply a time travel of chronological real footage and news reports going through the entire mission over 8 days with some really good music in the background.

BTW anyone who has seen this and found the documentary style well done I highly recommend you watch "LA 92" because that specific documentary also uses the same format of 100% film footage + music with no one speaking, lecturing or talking politics to explain the situation. You get to watch it for yourself and decide.

Nice, I like cruisers. Not too small, it's a tight crew and getting ESWS was fairly easy. Being an engineer on such a "classic" ship can be a pain sometimes though, they expect everything to work just like it did back in '86 when she was commissioned but sometimes it just isn't feasible. Constant troubleshooting and making repairs will make you a good engineer though.
Interesting about the tires, just moving up to 265/75 from stock I noticed a pretty significant loss in torque, not to mention I'm running load range E tires with an ARB, Baja Rack, Sliders, etc. I would expect another loss of power/torque moving up to 33s but I know that what I'm driving isn't a race car and my truck never goes over 70 mph anyway.
I have yet to see the new Apollo 11 movie. My father is a space geek, he went to Embry-Riddle for Aeronautical engineering and helped build the Space Shuttle Columbia. I always tell him it was his fault that it blew up. He saw the Apollo 11 on IMAX and said it was one of the best films he's ever seen. I'll have to check it out. Cheers

4runners and space, love it! Apollo 11 in imax was incredible, the actual launch sequence was amazing, the feeling was as good as the visual.
BrianSD_42 I've read a bunch of this build thread, love the work you've done. I'm looking forward to doing similar work on mine. Curious what you think about the newer SS 1.2 kit with radflo's vs the king coilovers you swapped in?

Thanks AZBub. I ended up buying the BluRay when it first came out but Hulu is pretty good quality 2K/4K viewing from my experience. It would have been hard for you to catch it while in IMAX. It only showed in the IMAX format for 7 days around the country and only on very select screens. I saw it in Virginia purely by chance at the Dulles Space Center musuem which is a true IMAX. But when I got back to San Diego I tried to find it in San Diego anywhere on IMAX to take my wife and no luck. Only standard showings for the following month.

Thanks man. I'm still active but I don't have as much to put in my thread. I went back out to Joshua Tree a week ago with some buddies but the pictures weren't anything special and I've posted about Joshua Tree several times already in this thread.
Regarding the SS 1.2 kit with Radflo's .... well this can be confusing because Steve @ SS keeps changing the contents of his 1.2/1.2A kit and at this point it is totally different than when I bought my 1.2 kit back in 2008. That's his decision and no matter to me but it does make communicating about it online a bit confusing.
It sounds like you are basically asking what do I think about Radflo vs King. ... I have no idea. I love my Kings. The just work, the blue looks great and lots of other people like them. Like 99% of the people on this forum I don't need reservoirs (respect to the 1% of hard core wheelers actually out there) and the non-res Kings are sweet. They ride nice (I have 600 coils but recommend 650, not 700 ever) both in the city and on dirt roads. Kings are quality but affordable. They can be found for around $1,100 online. Tony B recently wrote about this in his thread. So with all that said I'd still go with the Kings but only because they do what i was looking for and I don't know anything about RadFlo. Hope that helps.

I’m eventually planning on doing a steel bumper but will be stock for a while so I’ve been trying to navigate the spring selection as well, it sounds like 650# springs on coilovers are the way to go all around.

Howdy!
Haven't seen much activity, as you mentioned back in 19'... Obviously, 2020 has been a challenge to do some group outings... I hope you're still driving the 4R?? I've found that I've started coming back to the forum, this Spring I think I have some work to do on my 98'. After 305K, the front end is in need for some work. My plan is to replace the U/L CA bushings, rack, TRE's. I did LBJ's, TBU and shocks & Springs a while back, so I plan on staying with what I have. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hey man,
Thanks for dropping by and commenting. I haven't gotten as much activity in 2020 as I wanted, not much really. I have the 4Runner for camping / trips / cruising but I have been very limited this year bc of stupid Covid.
I was going to do an awesome April 2020 Moab trip with friends but that was killed by Covid (I should have just gone anyways) and then in June I was blessed with a son, our 1st child. Its been a wild year.
The 4Runner is still here and now it has a 3-car garage so there has been a lot of changes this year
Here are a few pics of the garage before / post-renovation. 4Runner is off-camera as it is in the driveway at the moment.
