I repainted my rear bumper plastic, primer and then SEM-XRP satin black paint.

Trip preparation and rear cargo area modifications

I decided to run a marine-tow strap through all 4 floor eye-holes in the cargo bay. The purpose was to provide a better surface to tie things down. I cinched it tight and then tied down my dual-12 box and other gear.

I was just looking at your headlight output pics. I guarantee there are some "squirrel finders" in your projectors. There will be some irregular flap of metal somewhere in the projector to purposefully toss a small amount of light higher up. I have seen several OEM projectors with this and seeing your most recent pics looks exactly like the output from projectors I have tested with this issue. If your headlights weren't back together I'd ask you to open up the projectors and take a photo of the guts of the projector for me to look at. The irregular piece will be behind the projector lens and probably below the cutoff shield somewhere. Realistically it could be anywhere in between the back of the projector lens and the cutoff shield.

However, it isnt a huge issue I guess. If you can live with the light above the cutoff, then just rock them.... I mean, the light output is still dramatically improved and the extra light being emitted high is probably not enough to bother oncoming drivers. If you start getting flashed though, you might want to fix it. Cheers!

Anza-Borrego Day Trip 1/1/2012

Here are some pics from my day trip out to Anza-Borrego Desert. Overall it was a really great trip but unfortunately we didn't start wheeling until noon. I left San Diego at 9:30am New Years Day!

We stopped by the visitors center to pick up some maps. I recommend everyone do this! The $10 map is much better than the cheap one they give out to most tourists.

I had the headers put on when fixing my engine last year. my CYL#3 cracked leaving me with a cracked head. I mentioned it above but just to rehash, since the engine was pulled apart i had "The Truck Shop" put on a set of Downey headers. The were able to obtain them even though Downey is gone.

Cost $400 parts $100 labor.

Keep in mind that is on top of the price for $3000 rebuild.

My engine runs great now. I have two NEW aftermarket heads by JE (whoever they are) and it runs fine so far.

My truck doesnt feel sluggish to me.

Update - 1.25" Wheel Spacers Added w/ Pics

So I finally ordered a set of 1/25" spacers from a local shop.

They are aluminium and the machinist appears to have done a pretty good job.

Here are the before / after pics.

You needed those with the flares. I took my sr5 flares off and it was like free spacers. But with the flares (that I envy) you needed those spacers! Looks good!

As does the weather. Snow on the ground here.

Thanks man! It cost me $89 for a set of two.

I had to borrow a torque-wrench from my neighbor to install them.

Thanks man. I have been waiting to do this mod for at least 9 months. I just didn't feel like spending the $180 for them until recently.

Looks great. I did not know how good your wheels looked until now. The 4runner will look even better next to the BMW.

Once you get the wheels a little further out on these things they look so much better.

The spacers really improved both the looks and stance of your rig. Obviously, I prefer to go the route of wheels w/less backspacing, but the result is all the same.

Also, if I'm reading correctly, you had these made by a local machinist rather than buying a commercial brand of spacer?

Out of curiosity, what made you get the spacers machined rather than order the Spiderax or something of the like?

Eventually I will get back to you about the articles. Stupid BS engineering project.
