Bright headlights

I've had my new 4Runner for 3 months now, and in this time there's been maybe 5 or so occasions driving at night in which oncoming cars FLASH their high beams at me.

The first couple times this happened, I had to double-check that MY high beams weren't on. But that certainly was not the case. These oncoming cars are just flashing me! The most recent time, I was sitting at a stoplight, and a car directly across flashed his/her high beams at me like 3 times!

Are the 4Runner's headlights just extremely bright? Or are they just winking at the beauty that is a 4Runner? ;):

Anyone else getting flashed?!!

I've had my 4runner for close to the same amount of time as you. I got mine in mid august. Before I got the 4runner I had a 94 explorer, and had that problem with oncoming cars. I'm guessing most of the people who flashed you were in vehicles lower than you. It's just in their eyes and they are annoyed. If you ve faced a lifted truck at night, it was probably pretty bright to you because of the fact that their headlights are eye-level. Also, if you have the fog lights on all the time with your headlights it will make it even brighter.

The 4runner lights are bright though, so even some trucks/suvs might be agitated by them. Be proud! haha.
 
From my experience, the squirrel finders inside the headlight housing should probably be adjusted, or pushed forward a bit to get rid of escaping light above the cutoff line. If you have no clue to what I'm talking about, you probably haven't seen member lawwailok's mod thread. I'm too lazy to do a search for ya :p

While installing my HID kit, I did notice that after the HIDs were installed, i recieved less flashes from oncoming traffic. This was after the Squirrel finder mod was done. Thus the stock design of the housing is flawed in the case of 06+ projector housing.
 
Everyone seems to flash me and yell out their window...... perhaps it's my 8000K HID conversion kit lol suckers
 
Illwill, my Runner is two weeks old. Nobody flashing me yet, but I have noticed that these lights seem very bright, which makes me happy. I don't see well at night and these headlights certainly help.

You installed the amp, components and navi in your Runner yet?

squirrels......were outside the window as the lady realtor showed me up the stairs to the master bedroom where she began to.....oops. wrong mag..

Squirrel finders are the square block of light above the cut off line on projectors. HID projectors do not have this as it creates glare, also HID projectors have an extremely sharp cut off line. Halogen projectors have the squirrel finders to allow light to escape the cut off line to better illuminate overhead road signs. Because Halogens are not anywhere close to the brightness and intensity of HIDs squirrel finders are acceptable, with HIDs it's mad glare.

Take AlphaQup advice and do a quick search.

I've made a few more minor changes on my TSX retro, a little mod of bulb spacing.... and also altered the output a little bit. let me know if anyone wants to see the final output. i'll put up a new thread of the final mod.
 
I get flashed too at stops by other drivers. When that happens, I then turn on or flash my actual HIGH beam back in their face as if to say, "No my dear fools, THESE are my high beams."
 
On my '92 U had a brush bar and a roof light rack that totalled 7 six inch spot lights, that usually helped when I got flashed. Now if I can only add those type of lights to my new 4runner and make it look sleek then I would , but I want to make my new 4runner (as RonMaiden calls it) a mall crawler, I call it a nicely pimped out 4runner.
 
I know for sure that 4gen Runner headlights are weak as hell, therefore it has to be alignment problem in your case.

Damn dude! I'd be flashing you too. Those are way too bright where they shouldn't be. They can easily lead to an accident.

hell yea, too much glare! never put HID into reflector housing, and that seems like 6000k or 8000k, another "no-no"
