Brighter reverse lights

youre gonna want to double check on whether the new lights use 921 like the 01-02s vs 7440 in the 96-00 models.

So far everywhere I've checked says 7440 but ya never know until you actually go look. Thanks for the heads up

I run something similar in my 4th gen. They also use 5W CREE bulbs. I got them from Mark (WhiteBeauty on here, LightSource on xr-underground.com).

They use a different connector and one projector may work better than the other but a 5W CREE is a 5W CREE I would think, for purposes of brightness anyway. So this should give you an idea.

These LED projector reverse lamps are unbelievable compared to the PIAA Xtreme White halogen ones! I'm very satisfied! Here's a pic of one of the bulbs.

Both pictures were taken from about the passenger side door with 35mm f/1.8 and 1/50 shutter. The first picture shows LED driver's side and halogen passenger side. The second shot is LED in both.

edit - that said, I still ended up supplementing them with a Rigid Dually D2.

I figure anything is better than stock but I just wanted some led reverse lights to match. Possibly turn signals too. Some people have the CREE LEDs in the same 5w but DDM has them for $10 while others have them for $30. I don't get it. I figure for $10 you can't go wrong.

Yeah it's worth a try, I believe I paid $30 for mine but I really can't remember for sure.

Well I guess that makes sense. I went back and looked and most are $30-35 a pair and ddm are $10 each so that's not too bad of a price difference.

correct i swaped to 01-02 tails and the wiring harnesst is different from the 96-2000 tail light harness. so the reverse light in the 01-02 is a 921-928 bulb

i used cree led bulbs

That's correct it's a 921. So will the ones I bought not be plug and play? What's involved in switching from a 96-00 to an 01-02?

I'm running 7w Cree LED reverse lights in the Land Cruiser, and just got some 5w ones for our Legacy, the ones in the LC are much more impressive, but I think the lense design may play a factor, the Legacy has big voids in the light pattern, still very bright though.

Damn! $50 for reverse lights is pretty steep. No offense of course. How long do they usually last? I heard some mixed reviews on LED lights burning out too soon.

yeah no worries, and there's no way i'd pay $50 for these either. VLEDS was having a 50% of sale and that's when i go them. I've had them over a year now and they're still going strong. I'm interested in these other options in case they do ever burn out though

So does anyone know if I'll just be able to plug these in and they'll work or am I going to have to rewire stuff? Might be a dumb question but the item sale said it was plug and play.
