Broke Battery Ground Bolt

Exactly as the title says, It had rotted through and snapped when I started loosening it.
I was a bit mad at it, and bent the aluminum when removing the broken bolt. I tried to tap in new threads but there is very little metal there. I can't say I know too much about how it should be.
Bought a replacement screw that fit the new threads, but I am not confident in it. It runs bad. Anywhere from 1,100 -300 RPM idle with the jank solution. I didn't get a washer, I just didn't have the time.

What now? Should I just go to a larger bolt size and make the grounding ring bigger? Even then I feels like there is very little metal in the fender to hold the bolt in.

You may be a candidate for a rivnut, just make sure it's a metal one.

Those grounds are pretty important so whatever your solution you need to take care to minimize resistance between the battery wire and vehicle body. Maybe bust out a multimeter and confirm those materials conduct well?
