Broken fender bolt

I was removing the two bottom bolts on the rear of my front fenders and they just snapped with hardly any force. I have secured them with zip ties and they seem to hold fine but I was just wondering if anyone would know of something more permanent.

Gonna bump this thread from a while ago just to see if anyone has any more opinions. I'm assuming a could just drill out and then re-tap?

Can you grab the broken stud with a pair of pliers to extract it?

Drill out the hole and install a rivit style nutcert with some silicone in the hole. then just screw in a 1/4-28 bolt. Should be simple enough.

Don't tell anyone, but I did the same and mine is tied on with a bit of nylon rope.

I have no intention of trying to drill it out or anything, just not worth it imho.

I've done this before too. They snap very easily. I had to zip tie it as well too. I broke a few drill buys trying to drill them out.

Haha these happened a few months back but I have sheared quite a few. Mainly due to rust. I don't have major rust, mainly just on the frame welds and what not. It's just enough to make taking any factory bolts off a PITA.

One of mine was rusted and the head snapped off when I took panels off to paint last year. I carefully drilled and tapped for a new bolt. Also, there are little sleeves/spacers that those bolts go through that seems to trap moisture and lead to rust. I bought new ones when I put everything back together, put anti seize on the bolts, and coated everything with Rust Fighter to be sure I didn't snap another. Unless you live in Southern California, you'll always be fighting a war with corrosion. :frusty:

I had both snap on my passenger side and I simply drilled it out and tapped it one size larger. Anti-seize goes on these bolts from now on.
