Broken strut

Hey guys... I was hearing a loud clunking noise and found out I have a broken strut and the thing is completely out of the top hole and hitting the frame everutime I hit a bump... I just want to know how hard it is to remove and replace struts!? I am going to lift the truck very soon and was wondering if I can do it myself. I looked at the top of the strut and was confused as to how it is held on..? I have no clue how to get to the top mount so any advice would would be appreciated! I have a 2000 sr5 btw

Thats a rear shock and it loojs lime it rusted away. I hope the rest of the under side is not as bad. Pretty easy to reaplace the rears.

The under side is just mostly surface rust. Until I saw this I couldn't find anything that was rusted off or damaged... Thanks for your input and I was just wondering what the top of the strut looked like and how you would install??

Its NOT a STRUT! is a shock absorber. A strut is on the front of the 3rd gen, it has the coil wrapped around it.

and its just a stud with a nut on the other side, most of the time the nut is impossible to get off the stud so you have to use this....

How hard is said nut to tighten or remove the old nut that is just dangling around in there!? Haha

I cant imagine that the nut will be hard to remove at all since it's not attached to anything, try with a screwdriver and hitting it from the bottom.
