Broken Sunroof - Out of Warranty

My sunroof just jammed open (3/26/06) and my 03' is now out of warranty at 42K miles. The dealer says it will be over $1,000 in parts and labor. I've read in here my people having the same problem, but it was repaired in warranty. Anyone run into my same situation or have any advice?
I'm driving around with an open sunroof, with a poly and duct tape fix right now.
