Broken Throttle Body Cable

So, I was tightening the throttle body cable (as suggested in another thread) because my 1996 SR5 4x4 5 speed definitely had an unresponsive pedal.

However, the tightening mechanism (bolt with two nuts to sandwich the cable) broke. I have the left nut securing the cable with a few threads, but don't really trust it.

I have not had luck finding a replacement bolt? cable? Or others experiencing this problem.

Any suggestions? Sources for new parts?

It may work OK like that as long as the two nuts are grabbing threads. You might need to move the bracket back to take out the slack if any.

Then again, it may be a good excuse to replace the throttle cable assembly because these usually start getting sticky anyway and make the pedal too hard to press down making throttle control jerky.

BTW, by the looks of it you over torqued the nuts.

Thanks for the response. They're grabbing, it's just not comforting that there aren't threads sticking out the other side. I drove 20 miles this morning with it like that, so it works...

Yes, I think I over-torqued, however, I'm wondering if that bolt is aluminum or steel. I didn't think I had overdone it too much if it were steel. DOH!

Actually, threads sticking out on the left do absolutely nothing other than give you some ability to take out more slack. That's why I said that if you need to take out slack you will now need to move the bracket.

On my '99 5-speed V6, the part is called 'Cable Assembly, Accelerator Control' and the number is 78180-35260.

Mines broke like this a while ago too, I torqued it down too tight and it snapped. Never got around to fixing it.

seem to recall a mention in the original "how to" thread about someone's being completely out of the bracket, yet was still operating normally.
