My first 4runner. 2001 v6. Been a wonderful truck, but first winter storm has hit and it won't engage in 4wheel drive. When I put it in 4 wheel drive with the button on the transfer case shift lever, then put it in drive with the transmission shift lever it just revs up as if it were in neutral. Does the same in low range 4 wheel drive. When I put it in reverse it would work in 4 wheel. Then I put it in 4 wd and engage the diff lock by the steering column and it will drive or go forward, but it is not in 4 wheel drive. Have been on some sites that indicate the front diff actuator is a problem in this year 4 runner. Any suggestions?
Also went to put the spare on and I don't have the jack or the spare removal tool. I figure a series of socket extensions might get me there. Can anybody tell me the size of hole I need the end to go into to unwind the spare and how long a section I need?
