So i'm thinking about getting a brush guard, but im not sure about the safety factor. does having a brush guard affect airbag deployment at all in the case of an accident? I've never heard of anyone getting into a wreck with a brush guard so I don't know how it affects crumple zones and what not.

I can tell you if you get into an accident with one that's hard enough to bend the thing, your whole front end gets munched as it pushes into everything it looks like it would protect.
I had a conversation about this with a tow truck driver once... he said it doesn't make a difference besides causing more damage. too bad because I do like them.

hv came across a statement on the owners manual..i think its a rav4 wch states that use of bull bar/brush guards are not adviced, and may prevent the airbag from being deployed...ran into a road block once..the brush guard on my rav4 took most of the impact...my car was slightly damaged by the impact...still gonna install them on my 4runner next month

my thoughts were more geared toward deer collisions. my area has a lot on the highway and people buy the brush guards thinking that will save their cars from damage. only a good bumper can do that.

The solid part in the brush guard is the center section, in front of the grill. Both ends covering the head lamps are not that strong. It can bend if you had a strong impact. THe Air bag triggers are mounted towards the front lower ends, which is less protected by the grill guard.
Story is different with a bull bar (I mean real bull bar: not the U shaped metal pipes!). These bull bars are solid from end to end. At a crash, the bull bar must get crushed all the way to the front of the truck body to trigger the air bag sensor. By this time, you will have your face at the steering wheel!
