My 16 yo son is wanting to do some modifications and found a brushgaurd off a 2001-02 Taco on CL, will it fit a 99 T4R with out much modification?

I always wanted a brushguard until i started reading on here about the damage they can cause in even a minor collision.

That said, for a 16 year old it's a tough call. On one hand i remember being 16 and the cool factor of a 4runner with a brush guard would be pretty high. On the other hand, being 16, the odds of him hitting something are higher.

Anyway, OP, it wasn't your question, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Like other have said, brush guard are a joke, mainly for ecstatic looks and have no real life protections in an event of an accident.
He is your blood, spend the extra 3-400 dollars for the full front bumper armor for protections.

When i was 16 yrs old, i did a lot of stupid stuff and i wished i had a bull bumper back then.

Check out the 1st page of my build thread. My brush guard saved my truck from being totaled.

But then again a $800 new bumper would have bent some mounting brackets and maybe bent the frame. For me it's a toss up.

Brush guards are Only brush guards.

On the flip side, they are Accident Multipliers/Fender bender damage creators, ask me how I know. Get the real thing but don't use brush guards. Running over brush with the factory bumpers causes no damage, cosmetic or otherwise. Luck!
