Budget Level Lift - OME 881 and 906 Springs

Pretty n00bie here...Looking for a level 2" lift for my 2002 4Runner.

Will the OME 881 / 906 springs to the trick? Found them for $169 a set.

I'm looking to keep the stock shocks. Anything else I'll need to order for the install - having a shop do the work as I live in the city.

Thanks!

The 880s might work better for your recommended height. With the 881s, you might get more than 2". As for what you need prior to install is a few cans of penetrating oil. (helps your pocket and help the shop at the same time.)

This link shows the relative spring rates and free heights of the different OME coils.

Essentially the 880, 881, and 882 are the same spring rate/stiffness, just varying in size.

The 890 is actually not as stiff as the 906, just taller.

The 906 provides slight height advantage over the 881, but it has a significantly lower spring rate, so I'm betting that's why people don't recommend putting them together.

If your looking for 2" or a tad more, try what I have. 880 w/ .25" toytec spacer up front and 906's in the rear. No muss no fuss.

The driveway slats down.

881 and 96

I'm installing 881s and 906s on Thursday. Are you saying they will sit the truck level but the 906s will sag more under weight?

Thanks!

I did a lot of researching before finally ordering 881's, 906's with 10mm trim packer for the rear and 5100s. I only wanted 2" and this was the recommendation of Wheelers Off-Road. I didn't think that 880's would give me enough lift for the front. I'm currently sitting with about a half inch of rake in the rear stock so I'm expecting to be level to .25-.50 of rake when I'm done.

If worse comes to worse, I figure I can swap to 890's if I'm not happy with the height of the 906's with the 10 mm spacers.

Is the "trim packer" (spacer?) expected to give you the rake - higher in the rear? Think mine will give me a level stance with just the springs?

Thanks!

I bought them just to be safe to be sure I'll be higher in the rear. We'll see what happens when I get it installed. My guess is you'll be level. From what I've read, there are variations in what actual height different springs give depending on year, 2WD or 4WD, or even engine. (a 2WD 2.7L is lighter up front, so may achieve more lift with the same spring with a 4WD 3.4L)

You could read other people's experiences for hours and still not know what to do, which is probably why most people get adjustable coilovers and adjust them to match whatever they get in the rear.

I think you'd be better off getting tundra or 4runner 5100s and using them with stock springs up front. You can easily get 2.00" from both and it'll ride better that harsh ome springs with worn out front shocks. Then 7 wraps in the rear with oem lc shocks. Those will run you about the same as a set of ome coils.

Are you saying that replacing the stock shocks with Bilstein 5100's will give a 2" list with the stock springs?

You lost me here...

Bilstein 5100s are height adjustable. You can adjust the height from stock to 2+" on the tundras.

Land cruiser front coils can be used in the rear of our 4runners to lift them. It will be more than two inches but they're cheaper than ome springs. 7 wraps are the shortest land cruiser coils.
Stock rear shocks from a 91-97 land cruiser can be used in the rear of the 4runner and they're really cheap

most all the information in the archives says that the 881/906 combo is about level unloaded. the 906 rear will sag when loaded with weight hence people using the 10mm spacer. if your not planning on carrying much weight around you won't need spacers.

there are tons go good reviews on these springs

That was my understanding from my research. I drive solo most of the time with no load - only weight is a Rola roof basket so I guess I'll be fine.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I got the OME 881's going in on Monday with the Bilstein 5100 (24-248730) up front and I just wanted to know which setting (snap ring location #) is it supposed to be set on if I want 2" or less?

Am I correct to think it's #3 on the pic?

Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I have OME 906 installed in the rear which gives me ~2" (I don't want to go more than that) and I just want it level all around, or at least the front pretty close to 2" as well.

Since the 881 gives you ~ 2 to 2.5" above stock I think your going to want to have it on the lowest snap ring setting.

Hopefully you don't get reverse rake with the front being to high. Most people seem to pair the 880 up front with the 906 in the rear. That's assuming you have a stock front end ie. no after market bumper winch etc.

Currently thinking going the ome 881/906 route with 5100 4runner specific

I have questions about this set up and keep finding dead threads on here.
wanting to go the route with the 881/906 and 4runner 5100s, i have a coastal offroad plate bumper 80#s and a 9000warn winch up front and a single mtx 12" sub in the rear which probably weighs around 50 odd#s and a bit of recovery gear.

2000 sr5 i do a bit of rugged offroading nothing beyond where i cannot get home that night
wondering if this is a good set up to go with and what else is potentially needed such as diff drop or pan hard correction, new bump stops, and so on.

in the end I'd really just want some good clarification on the set up
