I was never a big fan of them but when I had my T-100 I got one cheap(Toyota brand) and put it on.
They do work some bugs will still hit the wind shield but not as many.

Yup, and it also protects your hood from rock chips. I don't like them personally because It makes it a little harder to clean under it.
There is a clear plastic film that is available that you can put over the front part
of the hood that protects from rock chips. I had one on my old JeepGC and it
helped the chips, but after a few years it is almost impossible to get off.
The newer T4R's all have the chip resistant paint that was developed for GM.
This should help the chips and scratches(the body shops hate the paint as
it is hard to work with).
To me the plastic bug shield is just plain ugly.

I have a Deflectasheild on my T4R. It seems to work very well actually. I don't think I would go out and buy one if it did not come with my truck, but I am not planning to take it off.
I do make a point of hitting under it with the pressure washer every time I clean it tho. I have seen nasty stuff under bug guards we have taken off of other rigs...dirt build up leads to rust really fast!

I find myself in the garage about every month touching up pin sized pits in the paint. Most of the rock hits have been either above or below where the deflector sits, so in essence, the deflector would not have provided protection.
I had a bugflector on my Explorer and it did not make a difference, same amount of bugs and the trash that accumulates between the shield and deflector can lead to rust and paint oxidization.
On another topic, I have absolutely no scratches or rock dings in the grey cladding. This stuff is tough.
