Bug/Stone Deflector

Hey guys, searched the threads and had some questions on the toyota factory deflector vs. the canadian version. I understand they are similar in price, but the canadian version includes the little "fangs" as I saw them referred to, which I think are great. The only worry I have, is that to install you have to use the double sided tape. Is double sided tape used to install the factory Toyota version? Does the tape go on the top of the hood, or on the underside? I'd personally HATE to put tape on the top of my hood, where the paint would possibly fade unevenely and leave marks if I ever decided to take it off. Also read that some people had fears of the deflector falling off/vibrations at highway speeds. Is this also the case with the Toyota or Canadian version? Thanks for your help guys!

i've got the canadian one. on the hood goes these clear plastic round (no more then 1/2 an inch) bumpers. there's 4 of them. they attach to the hood, and the deflector rests on those. if you attached them to the deflector, they would rub against the paint. the clips that hold the deflector to the hood attach to the hood, but you put down this one side clear plastic. it's not tape, but regular clear plastic that is thin and has sticky on one side. each touches the paint for about one inch or so in length and 1/4-1/2 inch in the other direction. there are about 6 of these i think. let me know if you have any other questions. looks great! good luck!
 
Do the 4 bumpers attach using existing holes on the hood, or are they stick on like the 6 plastic holders you were referring to? Have you had any problems with it flapping at hwy speeds? Does anyone have installation instructions scanned, or pictures of these actual parts? My biggest concern is just putting an adhesive on my paint in case I ever decide to remove it. Does the Toyota factory one use any adhesives at all, anyone know? I really like the look of the canadian, just am worried about removing it later and there being little blotches where the paint did not fade evenly. Thanx
 
they are stick on. the instructions said they are safe for the paint, and yes, I don't always believe everything I read. the paint will be less faded then the other paint under those and deflector itself I imagine since they aren't getting constant sun exposure. it doesn't flap at all.
 
Do these hood protectors actually help? I just bought my 4runner and have been considering the deflector.

jrodrigo, did you mean to post that in this thread? or for that case, any other thread? I hope the moderators see these stupid and immature comments. How old are you, 12?

to answer the question of whether they help: i don't think they help deflect much, but they do protect that front part of the hood. I drive back and forth between virginia and ohio a lot and took a couple of good dings from rocks in the area that is now covered.
 
I have been thinking about getting one. My 4Runner is white and I'm not quite sure how it will look.

Ditto! Anyone have a picture of a bug deflectore on a white t4r ?
 
Thanks for the info. Good enough reason for me not to get one. I can take the $95 and buy more beer.

I just put mine on yesterday and I think it looks great. It makes the truck look more aggressive and it will protect your hood. Thats my opinion!

Didn't do crap for my hood except rust the inside of my grill brackets! BTW...after about a year, they loose a little bit of their color and become more flimsy.
